My 94 z28's fans never turn on when the car is running and at the fan's programmed operation temperature. I have a casper fan switch installed and thats the only way I can get them to work, but the problem is that only FAN#1 goes on. If I flip it up, fan #1 comes on, and when I flip it down nothing happens. What is the problem?
One fan will come on when the vehicle has reached operating temp. And the other will come on when the A/C or defrost is engaged. Only if they are working correctly, that is.
Can you try to reword that a little? I have a hard time grasping what exactly is going on.

Well I deleted the AC so thats gone. Okay let me try and make it easier.
Fans never turn on when engine is getting hotter. Went to almost red once when I left the car running, so no fans turned on.
Have a fan switch, it has low and high. When I click it one way one fan turns on, and when I click it the other way nothing happens.
When on high speed shouldnt both fans turn on?

That would be my assumption. I would double check the wiring on the casper switch. Did the fans quit working when it was on the factory system? And then you put your own power source to the fans?

^^^Like he said check the fan switch wiring. In fact i'd remove it and put the system back to stock. If everything works then you know the wiring was messed up when the switch was installed. If they still don't work it could be a bad relay, blown fuse, etc.

Yes, both fans should be on when on high... it is possible that one fan motor blew out (or maybe just the relay or fuse as said above)
I had my high fan motor die on me before

I bought the car in November and the fans never worked on factory setup so I installed the Casper switch a week ago because the fans NEVER turned on with the factory setup. It doesnt have a seperate power source it has all factory wiring. All fans and relays have been checked and are all good.

I have the same problem with my car. My buddy hooked up his laptop with LT1edit and the fans kicked on just fine, but when I drive the car the fans never come on. I tried to wire up my own switch, but I think I messed something up because that didn't work either LOL

Ya I was thinking about wiring up my own power source and switch but someone was selling a casper switch and I gave him 25 bucks. Even though only one fan goes on, it keeps the motor pretty cool. I would suggest you buy it.

A great way to confirm that fuses and relays are good is to jumper the fans on through your ALDL port as seen on shoeboxe's site http://shbox.com/1/dlc1.jpg. Pre-1995 uses pins A and B 1995-1997 use pins 5 and 6 use a paper clip or a short piece of wire. When you do this both fans should come on if everything is working properly.

Nice thanks for the link, I rewired my fan switch today, but didn't test it because I'm still working on my altenator bracket and don't have a battery in it
