anyone with a crank sensor 96-97 ever try an s-10 crank sensor when yours went bad? im workin on a car that is missing the crank sensor. no part store caries one, or even has a listing for one. so we put a cranks sensor out of a s-10 in, it fit right and pluged right in and all it does is occasionally backfire while cranking.

im basically starting off where probably 5 people had left off. so we have a 97 ta with im pretty sure a 97 harness. and a 96 computer. and its not starting. closest they have come is the backfiring.

The crank sensor will not cause your issue. It can be left unplugged even, the pcm only uses it for misfire detection. So that it can identify which cylinder is missing.

FWIW I think you checked the wrong parts stores. I looked up a crank sensor for a 96 Z and we (NAPA) offers an Echlin unit, and a Delphi unit.

Part numbers - CSS129 (Echlin), or SS10200 (Delphi)

I don't work at a store but at a Corporate Division. you should be able to call any NAPA give them those numbers and they can order one for you and get you pricing.
