View Full Version : sad day for my T/A
So i went to get out my car on sunday, had to blow/bucket snow for just over an hour to get the door open on the building. Sad thing was on the drive home, it turned over to 34k miles :( . So i got it home, its in the garage all warm and fuzzy (74 degrees), and now its -1* outside, and snowing and blowing so bad i cant even see my mailbox!! Supposed to get up to 10" of snow from this!
Anyway saturday i made new blower brackets, spacers and such. Wound up using the stock vortech cast standoffs and making a dual plate mount out of 1/2" steel for the main plate, and 3/8" steel for the outer plate. Made a bunch of 3/4" aluminum spacers to put between them (love having a mill and lathe right in the garage) and it all fits perfect. Sunday i re-did the coolant hoses and removed a bunch of old wiring and stuff from the interior. Made a new shifter bushing as the stock plastic one was shot, and the hurst shifter doesnt quite go in far enough letting it push over the cup. Made it out of aluminum and put a 3/16" lip on the top to keep that from happening again.
Monday i put on the intercooler again and painted all the blower brackets and the blower itself, that has to dry until wed night when it will get bolted back on. Hopefully my pullies will show up this week, did a 10-rib setup with a 7.8" crank and 3.12" SC pulley for a 2.5 drive ratio. That puts it right at 60k impeller rpm at 7k where i shift. Ill get some pics up tonight sometime.

That's a pretty good looking truck - Tahoe?
08 Avalanche LT, vortec max 6.0L, 4:10 gears and custom tuning by me. It makes around 410hp at the crank and gets 23mpg at 55mph

HOLY SHNIKIES! Im glad I live in the south! I think Ive only seen snow 3 times in real life. Although floods and hurricanes do suck as well. Katrina killed my '88 300z...........I cant believe how low of mileage some of you guys have on your cars either! :face_shocked:

Now that was a blessing IMO! Well at least as long as you have insurance.

yeah, i'm hoping we're DONE with snow for the year. it's looking good. it's cold enough to snow right now but theres no precip till next week and by that time it will be warm enough to rain again. i was awake last night around 1am and saw flashing lights go by and was like "awe crap they are salting for ice" but then i realized they were blue (subdivision security) and not yellow.
my car doesn't have super low mileage (123k) but you'd never tell that by looking at the body. you don't see 14 year old cars with over 100k miles up here in northern indiana with underbodies like this

nothing out of the ordinary. whenever i get the car washed i have the underbody sprayed.
that clean underbody comes from not seeing a single northern winter. the car was originally from hawaii, then north carolina (got sprinkled on by snow once that melted a few hours later, it wasnt driven in the stuff) and then Florida where i bought it in 2004. i then i moved to AZ in 2005 and had it there till the summer of 07. it's only been in indiana 2 years and i pull it off the roads before the first snow. the hawaii, north carolina, florida info was told to me by the original owner, and somewhat verified by carfax. the car was originally titled in hawaii, but they were military so when the car came back to mainland, they registered it to a PO box in kansas. i remember when i went to look at it i crawled underneath and was looking for rust and he was like "you won't find any, the plates say kansas but it was never even driven there" sure enough when i got the title it had a PO box address on it.
i had it at the body shop in 2007 after that incident with the hay bale and the body shop also had a black WS6 LS1 car there, probably a 2001/2002 and the body shop owner (whom i've known for over 10 years) said that my 95 was cleaner underneath than that car. it's all about keeping it out of the snow/salt

My 95 (134K) lived it's entire life in SoCal until the guy got a job transfer to Michigan. The underside of it is nearly as nice as my 94. Neither of them have seen winter weather though. I was litterally blown away when I put new suspension components on the 95 that everything backed off so easily.
Location definitely makes a difference.

yeah when i had my oil pan gasket changed last year jpack said that he was amazed that he was actually able to take off my Y pipe without breaking the bolts.

The 6 of mine came out like they had 4500 miles on them:finger:
But I threw them away anyways because they were useless with my longtubes.

LOL
jpack was trying to get me to do headers since we were basically right there (intake was off, valive covers were off, oil pan was off, y pipe had to come down for the oil pan to clear) but i was trying to get the car fixed as cheap as possible and didn't really want to spend another $600 on headers/ypipe

Nah man- he's from Minnesota- look at all the snow.
Some new pics, paint dried yesterday so i bolted up everything, fits perfect. My damn pullies still havent shipped and i ordered them a week ago! superchargersonline.com can kiss my ass. Ive gotta make a new oil line sometime so i just put the stock one on it for now, dont have any braided hose left. I sure as hell cant wait to pull this motor out next winter so i can gut the factory wire harness, there are so many plugs and wires i dont need it drives me crazy. I got most of them secured out of the way but they are still an eyesore. Anyhow, for your viewing pleasure..

Looks good. FWIW, I've always had really good luck with superchargersonline.... Sorry to hear it's taking a while.
Spent the weekend driving the car around, put 2.5 hours into getting the 2-bar SD on the stock PCM working good. Car still cranks a bit long at start, but now idles very nice and the AFRs are perfect at cruise and WOT. I would venture to guess i am making about 360whp at the moment running it N/A, sure is fun to drive i had forgot how much i liked it. Anyway its a rock solid 12.9 at WOT and 16.5:1 at all cruise rpm from 40-85mph. In fact i had to go pick up the wife from the airport and got 27mpg! When i bought it I only got 15!!! talk about an improvement.
On to other news, I raced my buddies LS1 camaro again, last year we raced N/A and i held him off until 4th gear when he put 2 cars on me. This time i pulled him in 4th 2 additional cars, not to mention the 3 i had on him already. Should be a solid mid 12 sec car the way it sits, cant wait to get the pullies on next month and pick up another 200+whp.

The old Maro turned 123,000 miles today. On a good note she's been going for a week now with no issues.
