I have a 94 Z mods in sig that I took to one of nicer local tracks last friday and my car has got me wondering what the hell. Here is what is ran.
Drove an hour to the track and when I got there I let it cool off and put on the DRs.
First pass it ran 8.377 at 82mph with a 1.79 60'
Next pass let it cool down 30 minutes and ran it again
8.400 at 81.64mph with a 1.80 60'
Third pass let it cool 45 minutes.
8.414 at 81.52 with a 1.81 60'
The next 3 passes I hot lapped cause it PISSED me off that the damn car was slowing down.
4th pass 8.43 at 81.53 with a 1.82 60'
5th pass 8.31 at 82.55 with a 1.794 60'
6th pass 8.29 at 83 with a 1.797 60'
Why in the hell would it get almost a tenth and a half faster from hot lapping it????? Any and all help would be suggested.
The only change from last year when I ran my best with the car is changed plugs from TR55s to Autolite 106 which are to damn hot and I just don't like them.
Thanks in advance on any suggestions.

honestly some cars just like to run warmer or hotter.... cars r weird its all about finding out what ur car likes and it looks like u r doing that.... good times either way

Exactly. Your motor might run "perfect" when the coolant is at 165-170 instead of the 140-150 when you let it sit.

well if i could just throw my opinion in even though i am no expert, it seemed like the car was consistent it was your 60 ft aka launch that was fluctuating a little bit, another thing that could have played a factor was outside temperature... or maybe when you get angry your car senses it and abides.
Sounds like you were just standing on the throttle beyond 100%.
Like you put it through the metal.

At first I thought maybe the 60' may have played a role but when you look at the first pass it when 1.794 60' with a 8.377 and on the 5th pass the 60' was the same at 1.794 at 8.310 and on the 6th pass my 60' was worse at 1.797 at 8.291 et so that through that out the window. The temp was the same at 62* all night. The was probably worse at night considering the moister that was in the air being spring time here. I guess it is time for the 180* thermostat. It the warm temps I guess I will give it the warmer temps.

You know I think you are right but my understanding and correct me if I am wrong but if the car speeds up with higher engine temps or cooler air then she is running rich!
Ive heard hot lapping an LS1 will be sufficient for better times, but LT1's (being cast blocked and all) not so much.

my biggest problem with hot lapping was my clutch.

Same with my car, runs just fine when it's warmed up. Tried a few times running it on the cooler side and it made no difference.

My car actually acts the same way. Looks like our setups are similar.

Most ls1's i know of slow down the more they hot lap.I'd say go back to the other plug. And do you have a tune for the fans to come on at a cooler temp?

All of your fluids are also hotter thus thinner when you are hot lapping it. You might pickup a few hp from the thinner fluid and you keep a little more heat in the tires also.
Still I thought these things heat soaked worse than that. Well at least now you know where you car runs the best.

Well I am going to back to the other plugs and after I do the cam swap I am going to see how it runs. If it runs the same then I am throw a 180* stat in her and see what happens.
