alright guys im ordering tires this weekend and I'm torn between these 2 different tires, I plan on going with a 125 shot of nitrous later on in the summer and its not my dd but will be driven a lot on weekends, so i was wondering if you guys have any experience with either of these tires and what you guys would recomend
ps: rim size is 18x9.5 F & 18x10.5 R

You're comparing steet radials to DRs.
The 555R's should hook up a bit better at the expense of driveability (in rain) and treadlife.

yea i know, but i don't wanna be replacing tires every summer because that gets kinda spendy when your on a college budget and how bad are the 555r's in the rain? im just not sure what ones to buy and i was looking for input

On the 95 I cut a best of 2.0 60's with BFG KD's (Not KDW's), and with the 555R's on it now I got a 1.9 60 ft. In the Nitto's defense I did not really properly heat them up as much as typically needed for the 555r's to really hook well.

I really can't tell a difference in the rain with the Nitto's vs. the BFG (but again I ran the KD's, dry summer tire) you are thinking of running the KDW which aew good for dry and wet conditions. I'm happy with the Nitto's performance in the rain, however I am disappointed by the section width. The 275 nittos are far narrower than the 275 BFG's.

Correct, they are not that bad. I read the same things you have that they suck in rain but I have not had that experience with Nitto's. I think the drag radials that are really bad are the BFG and MT's.

I would highly advise against running any DRs in poor weather. If you don't have a DD, keep street tires on it.
I have run BFG KDWs and a set of Nitto 555s, and 555r DRs, and now MT DRs. the regular 555s are a badass tire, better than the bfgs. the 555r is also a badass tire, ease to drive in the rain, and fabulous grip. I highly recommend the 555r on a occansional DD/street car as i found at my power level its far more dangerous with a regular tire than the DR. Now the MT DRs, dont even get me started on them, they are absolutely terrible. Great grip, everything else sucks

haha im in college and its midterm week......i dont know what sleep is lol
but thanks guys for the input I really appreciate it!! im thinkin the nitto's is what i'll end up goin with because its not gunna be daily driven maybe a few days a week to work or somethin 5 miles away and takin it to the track a few days and just go cruzin plus where ive been lookin a set of nitto's vs BFG's are about 100 bux cheeper
now for the size i talked to AZ2ENVY and he's runnin 275/40/18's and 305/35/18's in the rear cuz nitto's run small that sound bout right??

Yes, if I had to do it again I'd have gotten 315/35/17's for my 9.5" ZR1's. The 275's on the back look too narrow IMO.
I'm not sure what size your rims are but AZ2's wheels look perfectly sized for 18's. For 17's I'd do 275/40/17 on the front, 315/35/17 on the back.

so............i went to order my nitto 305/35/18 555r's and my tire guy told me they are not made anymore and that the 555r2's were basicly the same thing just upgraded............so i did some research and they are more of a road racing tire but i told my tire guy to do some more checking and his place he orders tires from has access to 150+ warehouses and none of them carry the 555r's in my size only the 555r2's so would it make a difference if i just got the 555r2's instead cuz im gettin sick of lookin around for tires............

I've read the new 555R2's are definitely better than the basic 555R's. did you ever order tires?

yea i ended up ordering the BFG KDW's and I'm super happy with them, they look super aggressive............. i decided to go with just a street tire because i dont plan on racing much at all unless its just here and there at the local track to mess around...............but i just thought it was funny my tire guy couldnt get the 555r's and he has access to 150+ warehouses.........but he also said there was no way 295/35's would fit on my camaro, guess i proved him wrong lol

depends what your price range is and if you prefer a certain brand i guess
warnerTA
04-07-2009, 06:43 PM
bfgoodrich would be nice. mickey thompsons. i would not be driving with them.. just switching them out when i go to the track. i have a set of rims that they would go on. and i would be willing to spend around 300 for the pair
Brady21x
04-07-2009, 06:48 PM
so they'll only go on when you go to the track?? for that i'd prolly recommend drag radials.........not sure if u can find them in that price range though, i may be wrong

DR's shouldnt kill ur stock gears unless ur rearends complete crap lol

Autos are a lot easier on 10 bolts than manuals. Being mostly stock you'll be fine on NT-555Rs. They have the least grip of common DRs available for our car and last the longest.
You'll be fine on them. I run them on my car and I am very careful about breaking things.
