The one behind the alt snapped inside the block. The car's been parked for 3/4 of a year because of it, and now it's soon time to swap in a cc503 into the stock block til my 383 is ready.

Anyone ever use these?

I don't remember there being one long one, but I could definitely be wrong. I took the waterpump off twice - one to change the Optispark and the second because I forgot to put that dowel thing on the back of the pump.

There are 6 bolts total, 2 long and four short.

Does anyone know of a bolt kit for the lt1? I'm looking for something hardened that I know won't break :)

Thanks.

Long bolts are 3/8-16x4, short ones are 3/8-16x2. And there's 4 long, 2 short. Was the bolt rusted? The only way I can see you breaking one of those bolts is by over torquing. They only take 30 ft. lb., hardly enough stress to break it IMO.

I've head to help plenty of guys cut off the old water pump from rusting bolts in the block , most had a seal issue allowing the bolt to rust into the block. And yes most do over tighten them !

I think overtorqued.

The car was jacked up in the front and I let it run. I had an issue with the o2's so I unplugged them and just let the car run. It ran a lot better w/o o2's because one kept shorting out. It was a tad rich, though but okay. A few moments later after the car was hot and after I got done patting myself on the back because I narrowed down the problem with my car, coolant was gushing out of the bolt that happens to be the hardest to get to.

Figured out which bolt and I shut the car off and crawled under. To my surprise, the bolt didn't feel very tight. So, I got nearly a half turn with the ratchet and went for one more just to tighten it and the damn thing snapped.

That taught me to torque them right, now. I may not go with ARP bolts since they are expensive and sell them in kits of 5 (at least through Summit).

The hardware store is probably my best bet.

Thanks a lot guys for the info.
