for those of you not familiar with my car, its a 6 speed camaro with maybe 3000 miles on the motor, and a year old clutch, and a rattling rear that might get fixed before i go. the car has a new opti. and its loud as hell. any of you guys make riduculous trips in your cars? (im going to florida and back from new york)

Never done a long trip in my car. I wouldn't hesitate to do it but my cars not a DD so I haven't needed to use it for long trips. The longest I've taken my SS is to Manhattan and back a couple times.

Drove my pickup from Houston, to OKC, to KC... raced that weekend, and drove back :D
I think I beat it on the open road in Oklahoma more than on the track :)

not bad. im more concerned with the clutch
I have a 6speed also...
On long drives the clutch takes almost no wear whatsoever... you aren't switching gears the whole time... you're in 6th the majority of the time
you probably put more wear on a clutch in 50 miles in the city than you would in a 1200 mile trip to FL

You'll be fine. I've done it at least 7 times.

Sorry, why are we worried about a year old clutch? A clutch should last 10 years.

I have 187,000 miles on the 94 Z with a six speed. I bought it around 153,000 miles. Its been to West Point, NY to Massachussetts and back down here to south Mississippi totaling about 3,000 miles and have done an additional trip to central Texas. Another thousand miles or more round trip. I trust the old girl going anywhere!

Depends if you drive it regularly, when my TA was a daily driver, it was fine. How ever most the b.s problems started when it either got modified or sat a while.

I bet it'll make it. I haven't taken mine on a trip that far though. The most mine's gone is about an 10 hour round trip and it didn't have any problems.

My only concern would be the rattling rear??? Why does it rattle? If you get that fixed you will be fine!

If the car is in good working order then I see no reason why it wouldn't.

If you havent had any problems with it so far, I'd do it. I'd consider bringing some tools with you if you are really worried. :secret:

My only concern would be the rattling rear??? Why does it rattle? If you get that fixed you will be fine!Werd but it's hard to know what's wrong with it. My '97Z had a whine in the rear and I daily drove it 10k miles just fine.

dont forget the opti...
I shoulda brought one on my ride up to PA from FL. Rotor melted and filled my optical sensor with plastic not 5 min after getting into SC. Hotel parking lot opti swap was a PITA, and I had tools.

Thats why we have trailers!
I would not hesitate to take either the truck (02 F350 PS, or 95 Hawk) cross country. The truck is the DD, the car is in the garage 50% of the season.
To each his own though, depends on how the car was kept.
As for the rattling in the rear end, It should be good for a bit unless of course you feel the need to Indy/NASCAR where you are going.

the rattling rear is either a bad passenger side axle or c clip. anyone have one of those laying around?

None laying around, but I'd really at least have it looked at before you leave. The last thing you want is for your wheel, tire, and axle to come passing by you driving down the interstate:laugh:
i've driven my 97 maro from st. paul to houston and back 25 times and never had a problem and mine has 167k on her

As long as it's been reliable since putting the motor in, I wouldn't hesitate.
