Well my Camaro is all set and ready for paint and body work. I am getting the front bumper painted and blended to the hood and fenders, rear bumper repainted and quarter panel fixed and painted for $1200. It is not much as I expected it to cost so I was thinking to myself damn now would be a really good time to get a new hood for it. I have the Z/28 hood and I always thought about an SS hood or a stinger style. If I can find a cheap hood I will do it but I want to try and keep the total cost for all body work under $2000. Any suggestions what I should do just keep the Z/28 hood and have it painted or do it now? I think the Z/28 hood looks good just the other ones look much better. Where can I fing a cheap SS style hood? That would be the best looking one to me and my second favorite is the stinger style.
Obviously now would be the prime time to get an alternate hood. There are hoods for sale all over the place. I searched for a used one for about 4 hours and decided new was a better way to go. I got mine on sale with a group purchase. And just a personal opinion, the stinger hood, ugh. :(

Please don't get the "cheapest" SS hood. The $300 ebay ones are junk, it'd be worth it to splurge and get a nice aftermarket one (suncoast, SLP, etc.) that will fit and look good.
But yeah, now's definitely a good time to do it, just don't choose the cheap route because it's all you can afford (IDK what your originally budgeted) as you'll be disappointed later when it doesn't fit right.

I would have to spend less than $500 on a hood. So an SLP SS one will bolt right on and fit good after adjustments no body work? I really like the SS hood much more than the stinger style anyways. Help me find a good one! My car would look sexy with one but I would have to hold off on exhaust mods then :/ but like yall said now is the time to do it.

I think I'm just gonna keep the Z hood for now, I have till March 2nd to buy a hood, get it, put it on and fit it. And I really shouldn't be spending so much money on my car I'm only 19 haha! But still some day I will be like damn should have got the hood then...

But still some day I will be like damn should have got the hood then...Yup been there done that. Made a spread sheet with the amount I was about to dump in my '97 Z28, almost puked, sold it and bought my SS. Saved some money that way, but the SS ended up costing more than I expected it would. (Got to love those unexpected costs.... registration, tires, mount/balance, alignment, throwout bearing, windshield, etc.)
Oh well, I'm just glad I'm not in debt.

These hoods look good as well!

Harwood hoods usually fit well. As for price not to sure off the top of my head.
I think the Sunoco's are still on sale for like 480 or something. I havent heard one bad thing about the fitment of a VFN hood!

but i have heard that they sometimes take forever to come in. Friend of mine had her hood take awhile.
Mine came in 3 weeks. VFN hand makes all their hoods to order. Stock = 0, from what Ive gathered.

That is, unless, someone posts up a meticulous Silver '96-97 SS and suggests he just buys that. :jest:

i love that Z with the harwood on that. Seeing his car almost made me sell my wheels for his style.

but i have heard that they sometimes take forever to come in. Friend of mine had her hood take awhile.
VFN changed to a newer facility so they can stock parts. When they used to own their smaller building, it was LITERALLY a garage with a small room for an office. They couldn't stock parts there since they didn't have space.
They moved to an industrial building a few months ago. They can stock hoods now and drastically cut down on their production time.

Buy a used hood, you'll save a bundle.
I bought a Suncoast Creations SS Hood for $250 shipped.
