I am planning on doing a cam swap with a cc503 or similar, staying with stock heads, and running a 125-150shot. Would it be beneficial for me to run a 52 or 58mm TB? If so, how much? Porting the intake holes for a 58 would not be an issue its already off of the car.

until you get a decent set of heads that flow well, I don't see the need to upgrade

you could go with a 54mm TB and forget the porting the intake. thats what I did and it will flow more than you need

The 52mm is the only tb that matches the stock ports on the intake, a 54 wont be that big of a deal but if you go with a 54 or a 58 I would get it ported to match either way. 52 will match right up and be fine. If you get a good price on one it can't hurt but don't expect more than ~5hp on motor and maybe ~10hp on spray

Those numbers seem pretty darn good to me. Too good from what I've read.

I dont think its nesassary but will help!!
On a 400hp car(with the juice you should at least make 400+) I fully suggest you go with a 58mm TB the first time. Lloyd Elliott suggests the same. You will not see a full benifit with the stock heads NA but on the juice it will help.
Also there is no point in paying for a 52 or 54 If you plan on doing more to the car and you will need a 58 anyways down the road.

Don't do anything unless your going to get the 58mm and port the intake. That way you are set for the future and won't waste a penny.

To be honset I made 390rwhp with the stock 48mm TB. I currently have a 58mm TB but I doubt it picked up much hp but will help with a 58mm plate kit!
I would wait until heads but if you must have it get the 58mm

Blah.... blah.... blah......tell me more about that^^^^^^^:whistle:
Thats why I mentioned 400hp as where the real benifit would be, Plus he can pick one up cheap. I paid 250 shipped for a brand new BBK in the box.
Ebay can be your friend!!!

i honestly doubt the size of your tb affects the out put of your nitrous set up

i say get it and do it now, you have the intake off and you wont have to do it later so why not?? it does no harm and you will probably grow into it (powerwise) later so its like you got it in advance

you can home port the intake to 58mm anyway

Correct me if I am wrong but a 52mm is rated up to 450hp which is pretty damn good. Now I do also agree that if you plan on doing anything more in the future then yes it would be a waste to buy a 52mm and have to buy another 58mm when you decide to go for the big numbers. Like a few people said if it is already off the car do it right the first time and get the 58mm and port the intake to match or get crazy and port it for the mono blade and be done with it all together.

Just a few thoughts/opinions from me.
1.) You can't put too big of a TB on a EFI motor, wheres a carb you could. So don't be afraid of big TB's
2.) The Stock LT1 intake lacks a lot of plenum volume, in fact it measures around 3 liters which translates roughly to a 183ci motor, Buy adding a big TB you increase the plenum of the intake. No wonder the LT1 intake likes monoblades

read this, it discusses about the benefits and there not being really any downsides to the 58mm. its only a few lines into this page so you dont have to read the whole write up.
