First and foremost I am simply assuming most members who do the LS1 swap haven't maintained their LT1 brakes 100%, mainly the fluid not being flushed/bled. I'm a member on CZ28.com as well and everyone pretty much swears by the LS1 swap, so I thought I would get an opinion over here.
This is strictly my DD; no track time and no autox of course. My tires would the weak point at either event.
LS1 Swap ~ $150-180 + Shipping
- Used Knuckles
- Used Calipers
- Used Pads
- Used Brake lines
- Used Rotors
- Used Hardware
I did some price searching and came up with a decent list for a complete LT1 brake overhaul.
For $148.27 + Shipping and cost for Synthetic fluid of choice and caliper paint/powdercoat:
- New Raybestos blanks
- New Raybestos Ceramic pads
- New Master Cylinder Cap
- New Master Cylinder Gasket
- New OEM Brake hoses w/ washers
- New Caliper Rebuild kit (boot/seal)
- New Raybestos Bleeders
- New Caliper bolts
- New Banjo bolts
- New Caliper bolt bushings
So for less money I could have all new brake parts and the piece of mind of having it done right or do the LS1 swap and save up for decent rotors and pads.
In my case I think I may benefit more from doing a complete overhaul rather than throwing some used parts on that will need upgraded in a short timeframe. At the same time I will also be removing ABS and installing Wilwood Prop. and Hurst line lock with SS lines on a custom aluminum bracket I'm making
Let me know what you guys think, heck maybe I'm just giving too much credit to the LT1 brakes.
