is a stock LS1 drive shaft the same length as an LT1?

Yes, the driveshaft in my car is a aluminum driveshaft out of a 2000 Trans Am WS.6. The previous owner switched with a local guy as he needed a stronger (LT1) driveshaft and the previous owner of my car knew he'd see some gain going to a lighter weight driveshaft.

Yeah as far as the gain, I saw a dyno resulting in like a 1hp increase and 5 lb/ft increase at the wheels.

Yes it fits and works good!!! For some reason the LS1 shaft looks shorter but its not.

It is shorter but the yoke itself is longer so the are interchangeable. BTW I have one FS if needed.

Yeah I was like WTF when they were leaning up against he work bench so I measured everything...

I actuall used the LT1 driveshaft and the LS1 yoke when I first did the swap to a moser 9". After I decided I needed a back brace and a lighter rearend I did a fabbed 9" and a chromloly driveshaft.
I actually have the lt1 shaft and LS1 yoke and the LS1 shaft if anyone needs one of them. Just send me a PM.
