I'm looking to buy a replacement harmonic balancer because my stock one is cracked near the grooves where the belt sits. I'm currently looking at the brand PIONEER because they have an O.E. replacement for $87.00 and street performance for $120.00 they are from Summit but before I purchase it I wanted to get some of ya'lls opinions, as to yes or no or what brand and if they are an affordable price.

I have never heard of a "pioneer" making anything other than audio stuff. I'd check into just a gm replacement or if you really wanna splurge, an ATI damper.

He means pioneer industries. They make the keyed billet hubs, and also a separate sfi approved dampener and stock style dampener. Thunder racing sells the hub. Summit or jegs, not sure which one sells dampener and hub.
I have personally bought the keyed hub for my build. (my compstar crank used a forward key on the snout) The part is made in Australia, and looks very solid and well made.
My mom said that it was the best looking part so far, LOL I will be buying the dampener later for sure.

Mother approved haha.. in all seriousness though even giving me pioneer industries doesn't ring any bells to me. Of course I am not the end all say all but when it comes to something as important as a balancer/damper I just wouldn't take any chances. Your build is not together yet so we don't know the quality of these parts in relation to when the motor is actually running.
Does anyone else have any experience with this company?
I'm not trying to down your choice or even the company, I just don't have any experience with them, nor do I know anybody that does.
On the other hand, if thunder racing sells it, then I would not doubt the quality of the product. Just personally for me I would stick with a stock gm piece or an ATI piece.

I have seen the ati balancers take a beating. They are probably one of the best on the market.

Pioneer makes really nice more of an OE replacement type part. I would consider them a step up from OE.
As far as performance vendors go you have the following choices:
1. ATI
2. Fluidamper
3. Professional Products
All of the above are SFI approved.

They actually have street and a race style.

I've run the ASP 945103 set for 5 years with no issues. It's 2-3 lbs. lighter than the original balancer.

same here for my 2 LT1's and many customer cars
I had purchased a used ATI dampner, but then realized the hub was split and it was not used. I was told ATI has an all alum. dampner which is super light and may look at that at some point.

I run a pioneer on my truck... haven't had a problem (not many miles... but it doesn't have a vibration or anything). Wrapped it up to 6k rpm plenty of times.

I'm running the same exact thing as well. Never had any problems what-so-ever. :finger:

I would recommend professional products, I run one of there dampers on my 355 SBC build in my pickup truck, have several friends that run them on other builds including one on a very high end 427 SB and for the price theres nothing on the market to match them.
