weird popping??

my car will sometimes sputter like its dying for fuel, like it shakes, and then i get on it a little and its pops and clears up. also, when its sputtering and im idling, the exhaust ticks. anyone know whats going on?

You say it feels like it's not getting enough fuel, so hook a fuel pressure gauge on to the schrader valve and let us know what it's getting.

I had a similar problem when one of my O2s went out. Try unplugging your O2 one at a time and see if it goes away.

for the people that just cannot stand to see a question like this posted in the slightly off section, its affecting the PERFORMANCE OF MY LT1 AND OR LT4. when i get on the car its not giving me all my power.

thats guys could it be somehting simple, like fuel filter? i cant remember the last time that was changed lol. (the fuel filter that goes to my performance lt1/lt4 94 gen II small block V8)

If the filter is clogged or gunked up, it could certainly affect the performance... (I have a feeling it is not this unless the filter is severely bad) but go ahead and change it, it never hurts to throw a new one on and they are not too expensive

Ok, got that all cleaned up. Let's just help the man figure out his problem, regardless of whether or not it's in the wrong section. We can move the thread once the problem is resolved.

I'm pretty positive it's 02 sensor related. I had mine changed recently and they immediately were messed up. My car sputters and when it does the code that gets thrown is " low voltage" on the 02. I would check there first.

The thing that gets me is the ticking, it immediately draws me toward exhaust leak, which could be screwing with the O2s if the leak is before them

Dont forget that O2s arent used till your high performance lt1/lt4 engine warms up:whistle:. Ive had a lot of problems with O2s on my car, and the car would run fine for about 5 minutes and then run like crap until the car figured out what was going on and then switch to speed density.

It goes from open loop and switches to closed loop

Clean you MAF, or possibly o2s or a dirty fuel filter, those would be the first things I would check

Yeah, I got mixed up. I used to call it limp mode but then was told that was a wrong term too. Speed density is definitly not the word I was looking for/ :doh:

First thing check your fuel pressure, if thats fine then clean your MAF like someone said then check the voltage coming off your opti, if that all checks out I'd guess an o2 malfunction or an exhaust leak causing the o2's to freak out.

that's what i was thinking.my car did the same thing before the fuel pump took a dump on me.

If you do the trap door mod a fuel pump isnt to bad.

Cut a hole in the hatch right above the pump so you dont have to drop the tank.

you think? cause its happened through more than one fill up... and probably differant gas stations?

Then maybe not, I just know last summer I kept getting some bad gas during the shortages, and had to run some 87 and it made my car backfire, and sputter bad.
