I am an idiot. picked this thing up in wildwood nj saturday. Bone stock 95 formula auto. i have been missing my og tubbyformy since 2014, i had been trying to buy it back for the past 3 years but the owner was out of his mind (i sold the car for 3k with a roller 94 camaro in 2014, he wants 3k and the car is in way worse shape than when i sold it).
so, while "killin time" at work on Thursday, i found this for the right price. drove down saturday and scooped it. atleast it was "garage kept" so the floors arent rotted out. allegedly "mechanic owned" prior to the person i got it from. the seller only put 800 miles on it since 2013, he used it to cruise around wildwood when he was at his beach house.
already found some questiobable "mechanic" repairs, and the rad blew idling in the driveway. but, it will do a burnout. 197k miles, same mileage i got my first formy with.
since the rad and hoses all have to be changed, along with the fuel return line underhood having to be repaired, passenger side manifold leak, ac delete, i am strongly tempted to drop the k and just put my heads cam motor in it right away.
what say you ltxtech fam, run the stock high miler for a bit and swap in winter? or swap next weekend?
also, who wants some true staggered zr1's? will trade for some ss 10 spokes.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200525/264c1de17dd0619884a787cbf3f8280e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200525/c70eab9a29990cda0fe0343556faf593.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200525/34fdef93800c5ab9f3ebbe6787f49611.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200525/d106e71ff55c0b67a89d4aa0137cddad.jpg

thanks to a good friend Fastbird i have a fix for the redneck engineered fuel return line thats broke under hood. found some about to break grounds on the drivers side cylinder head, along with an accell coil. luckily i have a coil laying around (good thing we are lt1 parts hoarders) so that will get swapped this weekend, see if the idle cleans up after the rad swap and new fuel lines.

I do, but after some thought, i dont have a built trans. If i put my le2 motor in, the stock high mile 4l60e is probably gonna exit stage left pretty quick. So in the meantime i am just swapping my electric water pump, accessories and bracket, and ltcc over. Get this on the road then figure out what else is up. winter time for a cpt 4l60e.

opti/ac/accessory bracket off, swapping for a black painted one. found a questionable repair on the one power steering line that will now be getting replaced. usps is slackin on my fuel line relocation, still waiting.
i took the opti off and found alot of oil in it. i cleaned it out and will put it back together/convert it to only be a sensor for the LTCC. i have an amazon backup incoming just in case.

bit more progress yesterday and today but nothing pic worthy. got the stock manifolds and y pipe off without breaking a bolt, got my other accessory bracket put on, removed cruise control, painted lower core support, started looking into all the questionable wiring.
pulled my le2 motor from the 89 and sold the 89 today. put it on an engine dolly and am slowly picking at it for things i need on this one. fleabay speed daddy headers (@kitt8090 suggested) should be here tuesday. once they arrive hope to have them in by end of week, wire up ltcc, and hit the key

fleabay headers showed up. dna motoring/speed daddy pacesetter knock offs. they are actually built well so far. i had to dent the #2 primary in 2 spots. one was necessary (motor mount bracket) and one was due to worn rubber motor mounts.
got the passenger side in. been like 8 years since doing them in the car, as opposed to dropping the k-member, and i forgot how much it SUCKED.
drivers side install will be wednesday night and waiting for my felpro 1406 gaskets to show up. started pillaging my h/c motor for parts already. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200616/02c5a24a7e160cd08c0f5eef5d02d5b9.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200616/d5812a1d89708edba318b868401f1768.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200616/6678bbcb23a3caed65c1038b6e45812a.jpg

Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalkhonestly right now this is with the supplied bolts that arent that bad. 10mm head, have enough clearance to get to them all surprisingly.
usually I use arp 1" long stainless with a 5/16" head due to clearance issues. here im not having bolt clearance problems

cluster***k today. got some time after taking my son to the doc to work on the bird. passenger side header was all mocked up, started mocking up drivers side, and ran into a bunch of issues.
I didnt plan on changing motor mounts until winter when i put in my le2 motor. Welp drivers side was hitting motor mount bracket. ok clearanced bracket easily. put steering shaft in, hit both center primaries....shit. no one local had a new rubber one in stock, but since we are ltjuan hoarders, i had a drivers side poly already in the bracket.
it still hit, so proceed to clearance. I may have went a little far with the hammer, but roadkill proved you dont lose much with dented primaries. now it fits, clears, etc. got the gasket in and drivers side header is buttoned up.
passenger side will be completed after motor mount, then ltcc and fire it off.
I blame Catmaigne for jinxing me on the header hitting the steering shaft. he stopped by to trade torque arms from his firehawk, and he mentioned i may run into it with these headers...dick!!! Steve's Spohn's first version of a torque arm. With anything other than stock power/torque, the single slider tube at the front (inside the bellows) will start to bend. He repaired mine by inserting a solid steel bar tight inside the hollow tube. When we did the stroker, he convinced me to do a complete replacement with a newer design.

Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalkfor anyone wondering, the speed daddy/dna ebay stainless headers actually come with decent bolts, and i used the supplied bolts on the end holes, used the arps with washers in the other 4 positions on each side. arp's with washers would not work on the ends. the supplied bolts are 10mm head and 1" long, they work well.

progress on this car or any car for that matter has been slow due to life in general. this year has been crazy. we ended up getting back into mountain biking heavy and spent what little free time doing that, as i just didnt have any motivation to do anything so i wanted to do something active that the kids could be part of (and be a little more interested in).
well, i ended up hurting L4-L5 in my back doing of all things, yard work, not riding HAH. Since i cant ride and have to take it easy for a bit, focus has moved back to the bird.
spent some time tonight mocking up intake from used parts collected over the years (filter is actually from the fiesta intake kit), fixing wiring issues and being the ziptie king. Need to get some heater hose tomorrow, wire ewp, put y pipe on, and bring it outside to bleed coolant.
if all goes right i hope to be roasting em in the driveway tomorrow, then pull it back in and start tearing the rear suspension/axle out.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200927/91e044ebd9918c647c3a59d38a65fa00.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200927/7ae0f3743ad91d7601352605dea69e24.jpg

got the car out today, retuned for 3.42 gears, verified all electronics working, bled brakes, etc. go to do a little drive to verify brakes worked, and whenever i touch the gas at all the balance weight on the gm aluminum driveshaft hits the driveshaft loop bad enough to give knock readings (and feel in the shifter).
AHHHH, this spohn tunnel mount torque arm sucks.
car only has hose mod. so now have to figure out how to modify driveshaft loop to clear the ds.

driveshaft loop spaced with 4-3/8" nuts and it no longer hits the driveshaft. car actually hits pretty hard in first but noses over in second. seeing a voltage drop, so gonna swap the alternator and see if that helps. MoeHorsePower gonna need one of those send it high mile bolt on tunes.

cleaned up and painted some free but corroded wagon wheels for the front. will be running a 245/40/17 riken tire as a ghetto front runner. this plus the ss 10 spoke/et street r weighs significantly less than the zr1's that were on it.
i was gonna get the jegs 17" skinnies and m&h radial front runners but the weight isnt more than 2 lbs different than this setup, so i will run this until i can affor real light skinnies and light 15x8 drag wheels.
Trying like hell to get to the track tomorrow. hope the weather holds. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201122/348d2d64b202ac0a04c36a4a2d0ed091.jpg

That's a damned good run, good reaction time, pretty good 60ft, great et and trap speed. The ET is better than the one night I tried mine on the track. I couldn't run any faster than a 13.41@110 due to lack of traction on the street tires(Rikens too). Smoked em all the way through first, second and would finally catch traction about top of third gear. It has Mickeys on the back now but I haven't gotten it back to the track. Still need to do a ring and pinion job.
Congrats on getting it to the strip, sorry for the slight highjack.

sounds like the general consensus between my family and I is learn nitrous on the stock longblock until it hand grenades. gives me time to assemble the afr motor (forged 383 bottom end).

Thank you. I stuffed a cut up t-shirt covered in wheel bearing grease in the intake to catch the aluminum, along with plugging the iac hole with a rubber cork/grease, and pipe cleaners in the pcv openings behind the divider (again grease covered). it looks like i got 98% of the shavings out. used a dremel grout removal bit to rough the opening, then 60 grit sanding drums on the dremel to clean it up. It actually went surprisingly well, and it looks decent enough that my fiance thought i got an intake from someone, she said theres no way you did that with a dremel :)
just gonna keep plugging away at it. i know i need a converter and trans more than anything, so thats the goal right now. but if for whatever reason i cant get one before track season, its getting sprayed the way it sits.

we are taking bets on what lets go first, the 10 bolt, or the trans. I am reusing the converter from Ltconvert 's camaro (he went to a gucci converter cuz more boost and i get his hand me downs). i may throw a transgo shift kit in since this kind of took away the cpt trans budget for now.

what osies? if he ever goes full promod (or 8.5 legal) you can have it back LOL.

Yep! Haha, sounds good, although I will probably be picking up an S&W soon since the interior is gutted. Did Formulas have those goofy ass rear speakers? Perhaps an option?

Perhaps an option?not sure, i think the s&w one is a over the seat bar like his. dont think they have as many options like wolfe did. theres a company in nj that makes weld in bars for fbody's too, wild rides race cars.
i heard the s&w required so much fitting most wouldve just rather made one. i got this since it was local and i dont ever plan on being faster than 10.0 with this car (in the near future), eventually i will do a weld in 8.5 legal with a t top delete from rock solid motorsports, oh yeah rock solid makes one too

The Formula with the 10-speakeer audio option has large oval rear speaker holes.
The straight back tubes will hit the top of the folding seatback. It will latch in place but the tubes will be digging into it.

Sent from my SM-A015V using Tapatalknot sure if back will hurt more or less than the broken stock seat that moved constantly on a pass.
this is a track only car. no one seems to get that. its not registered. the most it sees on the street is bedding in brakes and loading on the trailer.

wow its been a while. havent done anything with this car, slowly been messing with the 89 bird as i am planning on gifting that to my stepdad so he can relive 1990-1992.
I gotta get the trans out soon and get it down to CPT gail to get it built. ive been so swamped with work and how cold its been, plus depression/anxiety crept in for a while there. trying to focus on my mental health/physical health (became a gym rat) so i can keep my mind in the game and get on with all the projects (cars/house/etc).

car was listed for sale today with stroker. if i dont get close to asking price i will either take rollbar/kirkey/stroker out and install stock motor and sell that way, or part it.
also listed the 89 firebird formula and the 84 camaro. all my focus is on something else and going ricky bobby fast this summer

Its a solid motor, belonged to my friend in NJ. We replaced the cam/lifters with my old cam and he ran upper 10s on motor.
Fast forward a few years, he sold it to some clown in NJ who did nothing with it, and then sold it to Shaun, who now sold it to you.

Thats cool, what's not to like about a good solid build engine that goes like the energizer bunny from car to car to car.
I had a 327 back in the day that got around. I was the third owner and it just wouldn't break. I literally wore it out, it never smoked from the tailpipes but it got blow-by so bad it would come through the vents when you stood on it and choke you inside the car. LOL

Just to update this thread, the motor made it to its new home in Delaware.
It was a bit of a struggle trying to coordinate the schedules of 3 people that work too much. There were 3 people involved because I don't own a truck so as usual I had to get my buddy @Sahara 54 involved in my Tom foolery. So of course schedules kept changing and plans kept getting pushed so @ SSlowboat was cool enough to say I'm just going to deliver it.
Mind you this is a 2 1/2 to 3 hour trip for him. Each way.
So big shout out to Shaun for that. Definitely above and beyond.
I will start a new thread on this motors new life in Delaware. Probably going to be a little while before it gets moving. Pretty sure I have convinced myself to send my stock T56 to Tick to have it upgraded after hearing how many transmissions this motor has eaten.
Thanks again to Shaun and Cameron .

Ouch, Hurts my heart to see any Camaro or Firebird going to a scrap yard. I drive by two scrap yards here every day. I saw a early Mustang body being lifted on top the mountain of scrap a few years ago. Brought a lil tear to my eye.
I brought a couple of garage door openers to a scrap yard recently. told the guy I didn't want any money for them just take them off my truck.
While unloading them, a guy was dropping off a real clean jeep suv on a roll back wrecker. I'm thinking something is wrong with this picture, about that time the giant claw crane smashed the roof in a couple times and lifted it away into the mountain. WOW
