It's kind of like, I need something else... just in case the project takes 2 long... I dont get all antsy...
Soooo, with the Impala getting ready for surgury... Something happened tonight...39086

As mentioned previously... this is am SD car so I really have no intentions of modifying it to the point where it would need tune/computer adjustments.
So it will get tint, lowered, exhaust, cai and the hideous flat black wrap for a more aggressive and updated look...

Oh, you'd just as soon get a new opti on order. If it has the same record as my wife's '94 non vented opti, they failed almost like clockwork at just over 50k miles. And as an update I replaced the second failed opti at just over 100k with an spline drive MSD with the new style venting and its been working flawless.

Hey Larry, just an FYI, the old PCMForLess chip guy Alvin is running PCMofNC and has been for years now. He still does chip burning. You could easily get away with your typical bolt on's and even most off the shelf heads and cam setups and have him mail order tune it and be fine. He's a whiz with the chip cars. Don't limit yourself to bone stock.....you should be able to bolt on your way to about 300 RWHP with the car which would put it at stock C5 power levels at least.

Yep. He still has the 87-93 Vette listed on the website. Also, talk to jaysz2893 about the real time emulator (Moates Roadrunner I believe). Can actually plug it in, load it up, and real time tune with it BEFORE burning a final chip. It's neat stuff.
Oh, let me look around too. I may have a couple of chips and an adapter floating around here somewhere. Remember, I used to run SpeedDensity.org back in the 2001-2007 timeframe.

I happen to have a spare Moates Ostrich sitting around. It is the best option if you cant find a chip burner. Use Tunerpro R/T to upload the .bin. The .ads and .xdf files are all still at Moates support site. I run the Ostrich all the time in place of the Prom.
also I have an alvin tune with full bolt ons and a baby LPE cam... made approx 350/350 at the wheels.

LOL, No I don't work for MSD. My wifes '94 GM opti failed from corrosion damage at just over 50k, then again at just about 110k again from corrosion/ moisture damage. I posted photos here of the damage. I know alot of people got burned on defective MSD opti's. I "THINK" they may have resolved the earlier issues. I figured I didn't have anything to lose buying a vented version of the early spline drive unit. So far "knock on wood" it's worked fine.
I've had another experience with them, when I bought my '97 it already had a MSD opti. The previous owner gave me a folder full of info on the car and I found that the MSD opti that was in it had the rotor fall off sometime in the early 2000's. The repair ticket said the nechanic just put the rotor back on and all was well. While I was doing a head job on it I decided to replace it. I contacted MSD and told them I had paperwork proving that I had one of their problem units from around 2001. They told me to send it and they would rebuild for $130 even though it was well out of warranty. To my surprise they sent me back a brand new opti which is working flawless "knock on wood". I think that they may have all the problems resolved now, it has been nearly 20 yrs ago when they had all the issues. But I do understand many still have a bad taste in their mouth about the MSD opti.

Problem with the MSD seems to be new problems pop up at random times. A large batch from about 4 years ago had a problem with intermittent, spurious high res pulses making the PCM think the engine was turning as high as 7,000 RPM. The PCM would respond by raising the IAC counts, and idle would jump as high as 3,000 RPM, and surge all over the place. I gave MSD data logs showing the problem, and eventually they figured out it was something with the cap (stray high voltage pulses interfering w/ the optical module?). There’s a thread on this site summarizing the events. The thread started with an MSD tech rep who is a member here offering discount prices on cosmetically damaged surplus caps.
Of the three people I helped with this problem, 2 sent the defective units back to MSD and had them rebuilt. In both cases the returned rebuilt units were defective and the engine would not start. One guy just gave up. The other got a third unit from MSD (new, not rebuilt) and it was OK.
MSD makes great stuff, but their Opti has always had issues.

Some friends challenged each other yesterday, to see who could peel more of the bubbles up wrap from the targa top.... that festered into stripping 80% of the car with the exception of the headlights the drivers side door. The bottom half of the passenger side door amd some trim...
We now know why they put that crappy wrap on the car...
Because like many early 90s cars, the clear coat faded and peeled... I guess one of the previous owners grabbed a DA and went to town... what they were left with was not pretty... so why not wrap it. "How hard could it be, hold my beer," I cam only assume were the last words the vette heard...39095

On top of that, the vette has somehow become my field friendly dd!

Well I had plans of doing something similar but with the car painted nardo grey and a black stripe...
...but now with all of the anti-cop shyt going on... i think she is going to get wrapped in a dark color with a bright blue stripe (representing the thin blue line) up the middle. So same scheme... different colors... DIFFERENT PURPOSE.

I lowered the post count requirement for the "General Sales" section to 10 posts so you should be good to post your sales ad now :)

Sooo, as the impala project stalls once again due to my inability to do anything, I turn towards the vette again.
I'm looking into purchasing some z51 shocks (not a z51 car) to stiffen the ride. Unfortunately the base suspension is softer and on one higher speed sweeking bump, I put the rear tire into the right rear quarter... both cracking it ans separating the bond.... not a big deal, as I plan to body work it back together before I have the car wrapped...
I believe the z51 shocks (from what I've read and my experience from the old vette which was a z51), should be much more aggressive and keep the quarters off of the tires in the future if I stay with the same set up with the flares. (Was thinking of putting the camaros old ddc5 wheels om the car and slamming it without spacers as another option). Either way, the more aggressive shocks should be good for either set up...
Thats it for now... once I get the susp figured out... ill continue to put miles on it the way it is... till the Impala is done... whenever that will be... at which point I can swap the vette for the impala to have the heads and cam from the impala installed, and have a chip burned to accommodate that...

Well absolutely bored sitting at home... so why not spend money.
Ordered the 1" lowering kit... and also some viking double adjustable rear shocks to stiffen the ride (since I bottomed out and put a wheel into the quarter panel when I had the spacers on, NO BUENO).
THATS all for now... lol

Well we made it 2 years... I decided it was time to unload her because at this point I life, with a 6 year old... all the toys should at least have a rear seat.
Still a low mileage 1993 vette, she sold quick (less than 5 hrs after posting, she was on her way to NC).
BUT... as most of you know. More toys to come.
