So after taking a few years off after selling the last car. I ended up buying a car I helped build about 8 years ago. It's a 93 z28 a4 car it was stripped down, 3600 stall full bolt ons car. It was mostly used to just beat up on cars on the street. Well I found out it was sitting outside of his body shop for 5 years or so. I offered 1k bucks and came to get it. Fuel was nasty pump was dead and trans was tired. Car has 109k on it and was beat on pretty bad. I put a new pump, gas fresh oil and had fun with it around the neighborhood. While helping a buddy build his lt1 I scored his old trans it was a 4l60e and his old harness and pcm which is a 94 car. I swapped the car over and enjoyed it a little more I swapped ln my old cc306 cam which is about 12 years old or more and shortly after it spun number one rod bearing. At that point ADHD kicked in to the max. I ordered wiseco +5cc dome stock bore pistons, light eagle forged rods and got a used stock crank. Had the short block assembled for a year as I got parts in and pulled all different directions. I ended up with tfs195s ported to 215cc/80cc, a 255/263 688/688 107lsa cam LE grind cam. Comp mechanical roller lifters .105 wall push rods and comp 1.6 roller rockers, Howard's double roller timing set, msd digital 6+ ignition set up, a Wilson profiler sbc intake, pro system 830cfm carb. Ended up swapping to a t56 with a spec 3+ full face disk and billet steel flywheel. Exhaust is stainless x pipe and turn downs. Car is back to running and driving working on tuning the carb at this point. Next up is building a 8.8 ranger housing rear. Just finished painting the car white base coat clear coat garage job. Plans for the car is local driver but mostly a goal of 10.50s on motor is set and I'd like to see 9s out of it on a 200 plate. Pics coming soon just wanted to start a thread.

Rpm limits of stock or 24x, and ms3pro or similar management is to damn expensive. Still might go to holley efi if I cant get this carb business. Car was only intended to go wot for 1/4 mile and that's it. Life distractions made it a street car.

zooguy did a pretty successful carbd N20 build. I get it for sure. I was gonna do it with the vette I had, but sold the car instead.

I definitely didn't want to go carb I thought it would be cheaper. Between the 800 dollar carb fuel system and ignition system it definitely didn't end up being cheaper. Its nice and simple tho when its right.

Took it for its first long journey down some main roads. It did well, fighting rich plugs still with low speeds. LTXtech.com is my drug...Unfortunately I have no cowl anymore so has to be extended. Then after the plate kit and the air filter I'll need all the room I can get 2 wouldnt cut it. I'm not a fan of huge hoods :( .

Sent from my SM-G955U using TapatalkGetting close on the carb issues, this motor just really hates low rpm driving. Maybe after the rear is built and I use 4.10, 4.30 or 4.56 all that will be sorted out. These 3.23s were terrible.

Well 8.8 build is done, went with midwest chassis works lower control arms and panhard bar. Used a spohn adjustible tunnel mount torque arm. Is it possible the u-joint/yoke failed and took out the torque arm?

The way it felt was the torque arm snapped flipping the rear to a wild pinion angle relieving the u joint of its duties. It's a solid u joint no zerk fittings 1330 conversion joint. It shouldnt fail.

Repairing the torque arm. Bought 1 inch solid steel bar inserted it 14 inches into the torque arm tube. Then hammered the broken pieces onto the other end checking alignment. Then tack welded it together cutting a grove into it for maximum penetration. Had to buy the adjuster screw from them. They shipped it out right away but never responded to my email. I did a lot of reading it seems they do not stand behind this product with this issue. If you google spohn torque arm failure in google images there are a ton of pics with the same break. Costed about 100 bucks to fix it and make it stronger.

Well not much has happened with the car, I had some oil psi issues with a wot drop. So pulled the motor found a good bit of wear to the thrust bearing. So I got a canton pan from a friend and was getting ready to send it to the machine shop for a once over. Then I break my femur. I now have 2 rods in my right leg going up from knee to hip then one hip to pelvis. So this will be the end of this project for a good while. Hope to get back started on it just before the new year. Downside to termy X is lose of dash cluster, but, that is fairly the same with a carb so not a huge deal.

Well went to the track, first time out in 8 or 9 years making a pass. Figured I'd leave at idle the first pass and get a mph and see where I'm at. 2nd pass I left at 3k rpms and it was decent but car lost power at the end of the track got towed back. No clue what happened it ended up firing back up. 3rd pass I left at 4500rpm it was a hard launch and it popped out of 1st stuffed it back in gear and made a pass. 4th pass the track had a issue and they made me shut down before burnout to clean up and drag. Finally made a 6500 rpm launch and it blew the tires off. All 3 first passes I shifted at 6800rpm to get a feel for the car. 4th pass I turn the limiter to 7800rpm. All in all it was a good test session the car has a lot more in it. I ended up running a recreational 90 Oct 50/50 mix with vp114 and plugs looked great after the last pass. Went to the track again, prep was great. Was super hot da was 2147ft so terrible air. First pass was a 4k launch. 2nd pass was 5k track held both. Not sure what happened on the 2nd pass but I shift at 7500, well from 2-3 it hit limiter at 6800 no light. So i shifted it and kept in it. Only got 2 passes it was super busy. Ended up putting on relocation brackets. All in all had fun tho cant complain had a few ltx friends with me. Went to the track again couldn't get it to hook. Best pass was 11.4. 1/8 mile was a decent improvement. I've relocated the battery removed 60lbs off the nose. New valve covers and catch can set up.
