Gm is going after the big guns with this. I guarantee the C8 will be a low to mid $100'000s vehicle. Sad to say that Ford dropped the new GT on us and were in catch up mode.
This isn't for the normal vette guy looking for a corvette, it's going to be a legit supercar.

The front engine, 755 HP 2019 Corvette ZR1 Manual trans has a starting price of $118,900. Auto trans convertible starts at $124,625. The people buying these can afford to pay big $$$$ for more HP. That's probably why the introduction was held in Dubai, where that kind of money is small change.
The mid-engine Corvette the twin turbo is intended for is probably going to be more like $150,000.

It was only a matter of time, budget factory horse power is a think of the past. gotta pay to play now

Probably have to drop the whole rear sub frame and engine trans combo just to do a tune up. Service

U love it... it was inevitable the corvette would go mid engine. Im just hoping we keep the v8 with the turbos and not doing like the ford gt with the 6cyl tt ecoboost.
As cool as it is... i cant imagine a vette without V8 SOUND.

Have you seen this seasons grand tour with Clarkson driving one. It’s a rocket. Those ecoboost’s are a damn good engine.

Man, I'm just afraid that if they go full Mid Engine with the Corvette, it's going to destroy what the car has always been, the affordable sports/supercar. Yeah, it would be affordable at $150K for what you'd get, but you'd absolutely be turning your back on the 40-80K market where the car has been firmly entrenched and absolutely successful for decades now. I fear GM in their quest to take the corvette to the next level is going to remove the majority of it's customer base at the same time.

Not really, because those were just model variants. You could still easily buy a new base model for $50K-ish. But if they go full retard and the Corvette becomes a 100% mid-engine setup, with a base sticker of $100k+, that's a whole other market and you just snubbed the bread and butter market that made the Corvette's existence. And TBH I'm not a fan of the idea of a split model where the base is Front Engine and variant is Mid-Engine. I think that would lose some customer base too.

The C8 is supposedly supposed to sell alongside the c7.
I wouldn't say gm is playing catchup. This car has been in development for a long time now. It's never been an IF it will happen situation, it's always been WHEN. There was a mid engine rotory powered c3 back in the day for what it's worth.
If it stays in the sub 200k territory, it'll still be a budget supercar. Hell the C6z and C7z already dance around cars that cost 3 or 4 times as much.

Pardon my french, but no fawking way. IF they sell this thing alongside the C7, my bet is it's it's own car, a'la Ford GT. I'll say it now. There's ZERO chance they sell this mid-engine car simultaneously with the C7 and call both a Corvette. Unless, as I said earlier, they go full retard, which I wouldn't put past them either.

Eh, it's not unheard of. GM has been trying to turn Stingray into its own brand.
Who knows, until GM confirms the mid engine seen at Milford is a corvette, there will be speculation.
I know a few people who know, but they like to be employed.

it would be more logical to bring it under Cadillac than Chevy imho

Its not a great time for a guy like me, been dreaming of fast cars since I was old enough to dream, all I can seem to get is a cam for my antique Lt1 while people that dont even know how to drive are buying 700+HP cars off the show room.......
More power to them I guess, maybe I should just give up and go get a payment! lol

But there is a lot more old guys that just buy the basic variants and don't do any performance mods. You are in the minority that would like to mod the car to its max. On a car forum that seems normal, but real life it's pretty rare in comparison. Especially so when you get to parts of the country that don't have a big street racing scene like in the big southern cities

That's something that I would probably do (modify a base into zr1/zo6 performance range). But thats definetely not something that most guys are doing. The internet makes it seem like there is a lot more modded up cars than stock ones but most will never get past basic bolt ons in reality.

Right, but the other guy was saying that having a base model that is over 100k would kill off probably the largest buyer segment of the corvette. You sounded like you were disagreeing by saying everyone mods their cars heavy anyways. That's were I was disagreeing.

And yes I was disagreeing with him when he said that 40 to 80k was the affordable price range and I really dont see anything out of the 50 or 60 range being "affordable" to the average blue collar person.... hence where the NON base cars came into play.
I went on to explain that I WAS looking at it from MY PERSPECTIVE that if i was buying a c7... i wouldnt buy a base... so for me it is the 100k zo6... or if i had a base, it would have been built beyond the average blue collar price range.
Hope that helps.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180102/9e067ab0eebbaf4574bfed8bc33ca82a.jpg

I totally get that. The hot models have been out of touch for the blue collar guys for a while. I can agree to that, and that's why my idea of a super car is a used c6z still. One of those is still very expensive to most blue collar guys but now that they are 10 years old, they are more affordable. I would rather have a used higher end model over a new base model, but I hope that gm can kick out a base model built on the same platform as the high end stuff and keep the price low enough on them for the average guys trying to buy theulir dream cars

I kind of think about it like the v6 camaro and mustang. They are the same chassis, but obviously missing the v8. But the companies rely on strong v6 sales in order to even offer the v8's as an option.
