Well it seems as though its a situation of no news is good news...

Had there been bad news from today's testing, I'm being told that the surgeon's team wouldve approached me afterwards to inform me that there is an issue.

Sooooo, looks like we are on for reversal surgery on Weds... where hopefully we successfully complete what was not supposed be done till March 14th. As long as all goes well, this should resolve the complications that have been seriously affecting me.

I do not have a time, as I am an "add on" proceedure to the surgeon's schedule and they will fit me in either before or after all of the scheduled proceedures my surgeon (same amd only one who has been working on me).

Please wish me luck... i dont ask for much, but I really NEED for this to go smoothly amd to get em out of this horrible, painful, deadly rut that I am in.

Thanks Fam...

Larry

Here goes... cancelled all of my meals for today, and now Im iv and clear liquids only...

There is a tentative time for a noon surgery 2moro...

Spoke for a while with the PA, and the reversal will cone with sone challenges of its own, but other than discomfort, shouldnt be anywhere near what Im dealing with now.

As long as everything goes well, letz just say, ill be wearing diapers for a couple weeks... and the hole where the stoma is now, will be an open wound heal, so it will either get packed daily or have a wound vac on it.

Idk if I will post again, so please... wish me luck...https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180220/81feef02763b3f57f4a28f4507b87331.jpg

02/21/2018 update: Before I begin, I want to share the pros and cons of todays proceedure, however I will be vague with some details to save a little dignity for myself...

As most of you know what I have been going through, I will skip reexplaining that part. What I will say is my proceedure was to be a fill in operation between today's scheduled proceedures and we were told to not expect to have my turn come up until after 12 noon.

At about 3am, my nurse, HANNAH (cool coincidence) let me know that i was in the computer for a 0745hr surgery time... Angela who wanted to see me prior to going under the knife was already asleep and I was unable to wake her to get the message to her. I finally heard from Ang who was doinf her morning routine, and hoped that she would be able to make it on time but didnt want to put pressure on her... as I freshedned up, it was about 6am and A short while later i was advised it had moved up to 0730hrs. Being an hour away, I sent Ang a message to take her time and I would just see her in my room when I retuened from recovery... A couple minutes later she sent me a response (Im sure as she was pulled over and parked), that read "Im more than halfway there." I cant express how excited I was that I would get to see my "Hero" before my surgery. Yes... she made it with time to spare...

At 0715hrs "ish" my liter uber arrived to take me to the OR. She made a great effort to keep me calmer with jokes and talking, and that was a big help. However other than my Wife doing what she does, the thing that helped me the most was all of the insane amounts of well wishes, prayers, messages, phone calls from all of you, whether on my FB page or groups which Im a member of, From my stoma support site to Crime in Pottstown page, etc. The support was amazing emotionally and mentally... thanku.

So after shooting the shit and making the girls in the OR laugh, the anesthesiologist arrived and did his thing. As always i tried to challenge the sleeping powet of the giggle juice... but... as always I lost. Lol.

The proceedure which was supposed to take 1 hour, but instead took nearly 5 hours due to some of the complications that had been discussed in the past, bringing me to this early date reversal surgery... upon waking up... i was immediatley hit with some nausea and some pain, but there was only one thing I was concerned with...

I reached down to feel for that nightmare appliance and stoma and they were BOTH gone. They were replaced with a wound vac that Im told I will have to wear for a few weeks, however I could care less. I also noticed that without requesting it, I was having my pain pump being wired up to be left at my beckon call... She is set up to reset every 10 minutes, and believe me im allllllll over it.

Worried about my wife and how she may be worried, I later found out thay after the surgery Dr. MESSARIS (the most awesomeest Surgeon I know), located my wife waiting in the room to meet with her in person to let her know how I was and how rhe proceedure went. He reciewed the complications and confirmed that some were no longer and would not cause me the horrible burning pain anymore... he also advised thag it also appears that the reversal surgery was a success, and then explained some of the upcomming challenges that i would be facing....

I need to wait for my body to do some stuff that may take a day or so to then i may be retested to make sure everything stayed together and there are no issies.

Other complications also appear to be resolved thru the hospitals care of me as I no longer am showing fevers, however we will continue to monitor closely as it could occur again at the place in all of this shit that I am in now.

Finally they wheeled me to my room and although the pain meds were helping, unlike the first surgery last month where I walked a few steps to get into my bed, I was unable to move the lower right part of my body due to all of the cutting and seperated muscles in my abdomen... for now at least. In fact Im forced to urinate in a urinal bottle right now since i can NOT get out of bed ith bad pain. Should get better fairly quickly... and the reason i still have not eaten (yes, already given the order to a restricted diet of solid food) yet is because i would be going to bed shortly and the thought of an emergency #2 that i may or may not be able to control in the middle of the night where I cant get to the can alone was not appealing. Lol. So food will wait till 2moro, and we will see where I am in the healing process of my insides.

As for now, ive been sitting in my bed, visited by my mother and father and of course my Rock... my Hero.... my WIFE, Angela, and occupied by the tv and cell phone for now.

If everythinf went "perfectly" today, I will be here for about 5-7 days and hopefully sent home to continue heal....

Follow ups to check my plumbing will continue, as well as examination enimas (cant say colonoscopies anymore since i no longer have a colon) to confirm through samples and bioplsies that any signs of cancer have been removed and there is nothing "growing" in any of the areas we kept/saved."

Once again.... thank you all again, and for those that have followed me and these experiences, I hope this gets us all caught up, and Im sorry for the delay in todays update...

I look forward to getting back on my feet and back to work, doing my thing for all of you.

Now.... to try something new... SLEEP. Goodnight all

LARRY "POPO" HANNA

Ok... feel like Ive been a posting machine here, but got lots happening.

After a night of finally having a fever (from the SKIN infection), and a bunch of antibiotics. Review of the ct scan some good news.

Looks like the skin infection/cellulitis has nothing to do with the open wound from the stoma, and the CT scan with dye, confirmed no leakage...

Im not ashamed to say, I was so scared for hours waiting, that when they gave me that info that there was no leak, and I would not need surgery I broke down in tears of joy. Almost spastic crying as i couldnt control my joy...

At this time, the swelling had spread around my right flank and down a part of my right leg, but appears to have stopped spreading.

The Dr has agreed to put the wound vac back on me instead of the hand done "wet/dry" dressings they do twice a day. I also understand that the wound vac will allow the wound to heal faster by about 60%.

Well thats the update, Im hoping I can make it thru the day on this brighter note...

Sent from my SM-G955U using TapatalkI've had cellulitis before, from being in the hospital. that luckily is just surface staph infection. the thing that bothers me is that infection will make your body combat it more, especially with antibiotics, and slow down your healing from the real problems.

but atleast the plumbing is all good!!!!

Speaking of relatives ("brother"), I talked to my step-son when he was here a few months ago. I asked about his operation(s) which sounded just like yours. He always says, in a half-joking way, that his f...... hospital tried to kill him. Now he just laughs about it. Today you could not tell he ever had the procedure. I have always had a feeling you will succeed with this. Could be worse; at least you don't have to do chemo and lose all your hai ....oops never mind.

Pink eye is not a big deal. Had it once about 20 years ago. Dr gave me some steroids to make it heal faster, but nothing much else to do except wait till it's gone. Perhaps you can't have any steroids right now. Is it annoying?

Perhaps the dropping of the O2 sensor on your nuts was just to divert your attention to somewhere else ;-)

I suspect that since steroid eye drops can increase eye pressure in some people, that could be the cause of the blurred vision. If so, that should be temporary. I would bring it to the doctors attention if it doesn't clear up in a few days after stopping the drops. There are treatments for reducing high pressure in the eye.

So while i was in the hospital, the trauma from the surgery cause me issues that caused inflamation in my eyes. When i complained, the hospital pretty much ignored me for nearly two days, allowing the iris to attach to the lense behind it, which no longer allows the eye to dialate...the term is synechia.

Anyways, went and saw the retnal specialist today... exams of my eyes showed that due to the inflamation, the "angle" within the eye is closed.

Next weds and friday i will have to go for lazer surger to correct the angle on each eye, then early april a follow up to work on getting eyes to be able to dialate again.

Sent from my Moto Z (2) using TapatalkThe reversal has its ups and downs... at a glance, physically the huge hole is nearly all closed up...

However inside me, i have pains, and scares. Fear of leaks, fear of blockage, fear of anything that may cause me more surgery, or a return to that hell bag attached to me.

I fear that the most and it scares the hell out of me. I dont think i could go thru that again...

Plus the stresses of my short tern disability messing up and stopping my pay for the last 3 weeks, and having to argue to get it straightened out, and the fact that idk how long my dr will give me off to heal appropriately...

I was a strong 280 when this began... i just weighed myself and im 239. Thats 41 lbs since jan 15th... 41 LBS IN 2 MONTHS!!!! I cant eat like i did, i cant work out or lift... nothing is what it was anymore.

Damn, that sounds like a great weight loss plan ;-) Maybe i should sign up since I am about 15 over right now.

Buy seriously, I think you need a distraction for a while to keep your mind off the hospital scene. Do you have any hobbies or pastimes that you could use in the room where you are now? Reading books, watching long videos, video games, maybe even starting something completely new. The worrying is probably causing other problems in your body including excess stomach acid and stress related issues. I was worrying a lot after having my second heart attack, so I started doing online ancestry research. You would not believe how much time that can occupy, and the worrying went away.

I've been through/still going through some health issues from a couple years ago. I didn't need any surgery or anything but I know the feeling of uncertainty, being scared about the future. All I can say is power through it, do what you have to do and don't stop fighting. I know you have that warrior spirit, dig deep.

Having the extra stress that is being caused by red tape just adds to your recovery time. The complications you are having are making you more debilitated and being cooped up is not been easy on you.

I understand what you are going thru I have been laid up for going on five years between a work related injury and a car accident. It has turned my world upside down. I lost the physical ability to do my job that I had been doing for 18 years and loved. It has taken away my ability to work on my cars, its difficult to a couch potato and stair at the TV I'm have very limited you of my dominit arm along with sever pain. Having weight loss would be a welcomed instead of weight gain.

Popo sorry for the rant. Stay strong it can seem like there no way to keep going and thru it and feels of uselessness set in look to those how support you in that time of need you can get thru this even though the future in uncertain at this time. Stay strong brother.

Just waiting for the 4th to follow up with the eye dr... hoping to have my site back to normal then.

Big deep open wound on my stomach has finally closed. Still tender flesh, but went from being able to fut a soda can girth wise, into it, to a closed hole feels good.

Still dealing with issues on the insides... but experimenting with meds to help make it better....

Finally... made it out of the house a lil earlier in the week to stretch the impalas legs for a bit... amd yesterday took the wife and pup to a pet expo for a couple hours.

I learned i have to stamina and a few hours out is very exhausting... but was nice to do some stuff...

Went and followed up with the surgeon today. The big hole in my gut is all healed up, minus a lil scab.

Dr also cleared me to lift again and return to the gym...

Still need to experiement with meds to adjust how my modified insides work... but we are working on it for now.

Still out of work till the 13th, assuming Im all set by then.

Finally... the 4th is my follow up with retinal specialist... hopefully he can do his magic and make it dialate again...

Now, to see how the good news bites me in the ass.

Felt good and disheartening at the same time... good because its a part of me I had lost for a while, but disheartened because I am so damn weak. I was lucky to move a third of the weight I used too and it was a struggle and PAINFUL.

So what do we know after a day of tesrs and being stuck in icu for observations...

Here goes:

Wheni went to reading er, they gave me a catscan because i thought i had kidney stones... nope... no kidney stones to affect anything... but the er dr informed me that there is a large amount of air inside my body...

What does that mean...

Means that there is a perferation in my intestines, pushing the hot gas into my abdomen and torso area. Well thats dangerous... er dr calls my surgeon at hershey and he immediatly advises i need to be rushed to hershey.

Didnt know that its so serious my surgeon and his team were ready to take me right to the or upon our 1hr ambulance ride...

But he didnt...

Why????

Well because that pain that made me call 911 in the am that had me in tears and screaming at home, in the first ambulance and even for a bit in the er had gotten a lil bit better.

When my surgeon saw me... he felt that the way i was acting was not normal for what I was going through...

That means...

I should have been in even more pain... i should have been screaming worse... etc etc etc.. but i wasnt

Why???

No one fukin knows!!!!

So i get some dye shoved up my ass, as well as drink a shit load and get sent into a fancy xray machine...

Im so loaded with fluids at both ends it should be sooooo clear where Im leaking out of ny intestines into my body...

But....

Nothing... no leaking cant find any dye outside of my intestines...

So what are the possibilities...

1. Could possibly be so small of a leak that it literally has the ability to seal it self up.. but fear that it could rupture at any time, and kill me if i cant get under the knife immediatley..

Lets branch off into the possibilities... if it does happen... and we catch it with surgery... im gonna have that damn shit bag for 6 months!!!! Yeah yeah "but ull still be alive popo." I dont want to live like that.

I was unwilling to live another day of the 5 weeks that i had the bag b4... there is no way ill be able to do 6 months...

Moving on...

We could drown me in meds, and fluids and antibiotics and hope that wherever the leak is, it will heal on its own... but that requires a limited diet and alot of observation...

Sooooo here I am... plugged in to a bunch of monitors with in the ICU with a nurse litteraly assigned to me 24 hrs a day. Machines taking my bp every 10 minutes and other automated things... no problem...

But how long do we do that??? Well according to the surgeon and his team as long as i dont get worse we are doing well, however at "ANY MOMENT" things can go to shit right away, and either make me very sick, or kill me, depending on how and where...

Bringing us back to the beginning... we have no idea where to even focus because we cant find any leaks...

So for now Im a pin cushion trying not to get worse, cause if i do its hell bag or death... and when he releases me if i stay on the good side of feelings, becauae I cant stay here forever (although it fkn feels like it), then what... i live scared every day of my life that i may rupture.

Everything in this situation is more dangerous than the first tow surgeries because of the unknown...

Im sure i missed some details but for now, i remain a pin cushion with a hose in my ass expelling whats in my man made colon and 3 iv locations pumping in at least 3 bags right now but has been as high as 7... as I drive myself crazy assessing myself every 2 seconds trying to figure... is that worse, does that hurt more... should i call the office about that... etc etc etc.

Anyways... thats my update and now im gonna force myself to sleep cause the fear of the pain getting worse and ending up with that bag is just as bad as the thought of dying to me. No doubt.

Sent from my SM-G930V using TapatalkThats fantastic. With all of the issies from mesh latley, i was told they no longer do surgeries with it. That was when I was asking about fears of a hernia... i asked instead of waiting for the hernia to use mesh to fix it, why not use the open would to fix the hole atrong b4 a hernia. Anyways so a repair would require actually staple or sewing together of the actual hole.

A liquid diet though wouldnt be sufficient to allow it to heal. Did he have a shit bag at all? The shit bag allows no traffic thru the fixed area till the fix heals.

Either way... im happy his was fixed... my bigger issue is, we cant find the leak... which is whats making it so dangerous for me, as I cant live the rest of my life in the icu, lol.

If we could find it we could make the positive deternination if i could survive without fixing it and allowing it to heal... or if id need to go under the knife with the shit bag... but not knowing how to guage it... there is no way to guage the amount of danger Im in and its scaring the shit out of me... You had a hose in your side & up your ass, I’m glad you don’t have a hose shoved up your johnson (Foley catheter). I’ve had that twice, the second time they shoved it in there when I was not sedated.

Yes I had the one, but by far the Foley was the worst. At least we are grown men that can talk openly and laugh about this. The first Foley I had when I was 13 or 14. Went in sedated, came out awake.

The second I was 18, it was an emergency. In the ER the were like ‘we need to see if you are bleeding into your bladder, we have to place a catheter’. But I already had before, I knew what the entailed, at least partly and I wanted to no parts of it going in unsedated. I refused. But this was an emergency. So a big male nurse came in the room, he was 6ft and pretty solid. They said I could be either be held down or I could comply.

I complied. They put ‘numbing’ lube on the catheter and grab a handful of me and started feeding it in.

Numbing lube my ass. I screamed so loud my friend waiting outside heard me and said the entire ER got quiet for about 5 minutes. People looking at each other in fear.

Very humiliating. All that for them to look at the bag for about 10 minutes and say ‘welp, no blood, your good’. Yank yank yank with more screaming, no so loud this time.

So far I haven’t had hoses in the turd launcher or exhaust pipes from the side (colostomy/ileostomy bag). I feel for ya and I hope they can find out where you keep farting into yourself and fix it.

Sent from my SM-G955U using TapatalkSo after finding the absess yesterday (an absess created by the intestine perforation that we cant locate yet) i was sedated and awake while a ct scan machine was used to lovate and visualize where to put the drain in without hitting anything else.

Lemme tell u... doing that while concious hurts like a mofo, no matter how much fentanyl they gave me, but he got in and drained in a large jar of puss. The drain was left in and is keeping the absess clean, allowing it to heal clean.

For now we just observe it and we will re ct scan next week. What are we looking for??? Well we wanna make sure no feces or waste were to come out thru it. However if we do, we located the leak and will have to go back to stage 1 and do a big surgery.

What we want is that it either discharge nothing... or just blood aamd or lymph (means its healing), or even (but less desirable), green substance, which is infection, but manageable with meds... and we make the risky and hopefully correct assumption that the perforation healed or at least closed.

Im also currently on day 5 or 6 of no eating and day 4 of no drinking... Amazingly enough, the food does not bother me... im dying for a nasty sugary fizzy caffine filled coke classic though...

So for those that still care and are no longer bored of my whinning (I dont blame u) please keep wishing ne luck that the drainage is the good stuff and the upcoming ct scan shows everything on track for no surgery.

*ive overly simplified alot of the info and held some back due to comfort, but u all know more than most of the people i live around or near... basically my drs my parents, my bestfriend, some misc and my wife are all that know as much as yall do.

Good night.

Here is the scary part, I am being released with fingers crossed that nothing goes wrong.

-option 1 Im good forever

-option 2 same thing happens again and I am returned to the hospital with a good chance for surgery and having another shit bag... but this time for 6 MONTHS.

-option 3 it leaks inside me, I never know and it will kill me.

As Im sure you all can imagine I really only want option 1. Wish me luck.

Ive lost even more weight amd am not very healthy, but Im trying...

Sent from my Moto Z (2) using TapatalkMy surgeon and his team insist that it is nothing that I did. They believe the perforation is in a connection that was made during the first surgery however there is no proof or evidence of the perforation other than i had an absess as well as air trapped in my body that had to have come from somewhere.

The thing that even they say does not add up to that theory is that the connection they suspected is in the right flank of my abdomen... the abscess was in the lower left flank, so how would a leak on one side have caused that absess???

Either way, I live in fear every moment that shits gonna go wrong and land me in the hospital again... every move where i feel soreness, especially near the areas discussed I cringe and just wait to get sick...

Its so much to take in with constant stress and worry Im sure it may have gotten messed up in my head.
