would i see any gains at all if i picked up a 52mm bbk? im not having my manifold ported until i do heads and cam. other mods to the car at time of the tb will be, bbk pulley, cai, pacesetters, magnaflow, 160* thermo, 4.10's and tune.

I wouldnt expect much. I would only swap my stocker out if i got one for free personally. Theyre only worth it if youre making big numbers IMO. The hp/$ ratio isnt the most attractive bolt on ive seen.

I think you're only going to see a big gain from swapping out the stock one if it's acting as a bottle neck to the air flow. It'll reduce restriction on the intake flow slightly (which does buy you something), but the main reason for swapping it out is if it's actually choking the flow based on how much the rest of your motor is able to breath. Otherwise any difference you'll see is probably insignificant. The main limitation is still going to be the rest of the engine.

Based on your mods, it doesn't sound like the stock TB is holding you back any. I don't know if a 52mm will necessarily hurt anything, but you probably won't see much gain from it until you do more to the motor.

If it were me, I wouldn't worry about the 52mm now. Spend the money on other mods until you get to the point that you really need a bigger TB.

Honestly I would go ahead and get it since you are going to have the heads ported later and will need it then. For now though don't expect much from it.

If you happen across a good deal on one, it won't hurt to buy it now.
I wouldn't expect much from it as far as gains though. The 48mm flows plenty for a bolt-on car.
Later on, once you have a bigger cam and ported heads (or an FI setup of some kind) it will be more important.

FWIW, the previous owner had a 58mm and a 58->52mm adapter on mine when I bought it.
I dynoed 279 at the wheels (http://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/5/web/2297000-2297999/2297151_13_full.jpg)with a catback, highflow cat and K&N filter. (stock tune)
I never quite figured out why anyone would do that, but it saved me having to buy one
when I did my H/C/I later on (http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2297151/4).

I would get it. I think just a TB on a totally stock car would be a waste but when you add it all up Im confident it would help. You might not feel it but it will help overall. 58 on a bolt on car is overkill.
Oh and no porting is needed for a 52

guys are running in the 10's with the stock throttle body
and with a bigger throttle body they could be running 9.9's

it doesn't matter what they run. I could shove 40 psi down my car with manifolds and a stock throttle body, but would it be worth it?

That being said my car has a few light bolt-ons including a edelbrock/bbk 52mm throttle body. Did it add power? probably a little. Was it worth it? Probably not. But hey, I didn't pay for it. And once I get my new setup it should net me a few extra hp. At that point it might be worth it. But if not, I still didn't pay for it.

If your looking at a 52, I'd just port your stocker and pick up a airfoil. If you've got a decent H/C port out your intake manifold and put on a 58mm.
