Cable routing for battery relocation.

Hi all. I'm hoping to finally bring the battery relocation further up the project list for this year.

When I bought the car I removed and replaced the carpet the following day. While I had the carpet out I laid in a length of zero gauge wire in anticipation of eventually moving the battery.

While pondering where I might go through the fire wall I found an easy way through in behind the glove box.

My concern is that the cable runs straight beneath the PCM and may produce EMI?

is this likely to cause a problem and if so, would wrapping the cable in one of those EMI suppressing wraps be enough or should I find a better way to run the cable?

I'm not an electrical engineer but I don't thing you'll have any issues running the battery cable past the PCM. I'd be more concerned with it running through the interior of the car but that's just me. I don't think NHRA has any rules on where battery cables run but I've been wrong before.

I can't comment on NHRA rules per se but I figure running the cable as it is it can't get caught up on anything or short from being crushed in an accident etc. It's in it's own vinyl tubing, then in the harder plastic split loom (or convoluted tubing or whatever) then through a rubber grommet where it goes through the fire wall so chaffing shouldn't be a concern.

If I fuse it right at the battery it should be safe.

As far as racing goes..sigh...I've pretty much given up. When life/ time permits I'll build a dedicated car - maybe with a body not as clean as this one.

I put mine in the empty cubby on the driver side in the rear. I used a Taylor 48300 box and an Odyssey PC1200 battery. Cables were routed under the car and there is a large fuse at the battery.

Don't forget the master electrical cutoff switch. NHRA Section 20 - General Requirements, 8:4. Required when the battery is relocated. There's a photo of one way to do it in the thread that harner linked
