So the rear-end on my Hawk is a little moist and I've been told by one garage thats seen it that it is the pinion. How tough is that to change out... is it something I could probably do myself, or should I just have a garage take care of it?

It's the pinion seal, "Wet Torque Arm," almost every 4th gen does it. If you have gear oil puddling you may want to replace the seal, other wise, pretty common issue and even if you fix it, it could potentially just start to seep again.

I think it's only had like one drip on the garage floor in the entire week I've had it so far, so it's certainly not "puddling" by any means. LOL!
So how does one check the fluid level and keep it topped off?

on the passengers side fwd of the axle tube on the pumpkin is a plug you can pull out with a 3/8 drive ratchet and extention. just put your finger in and if it comes out wet you have plenty of fluid
