So I went out to get the mail today and coming back I end up one leg in the ground and the other sticking out. Wonder what the cars driving by thought lol. I got my tape measure, the hole is 10 or 11ft deep, 4 or 6 feet wide. It looks like an old well or something, the hole is lined with rocks. I have it covered with wood for now till I know what to do about it..

I'm getting batteries for my flash light after work and I'll see if I can't get any pictures, my phone camera isn't the best in the dark.

We all thought that as kids... lol.

U think the Chinese think that a hole in the ground leads to here... or are they 2 smart for that?

Idk, I called the township, they came out and looked at it today. He called me back and said they will call back tomorrow again after they figure out what the next step should be

Get a mannequin, cut off the leg & jamb it in so the foot is sticking out.

Lol... we had someone do something similar on halloween...

Put a collapsed jack under a car... and a pair of legs sticking out.

I was called out to the house 3 times in a 12 hour shift... smh.

So how did that hole get there?

brarei200

It's an old well from back in the day that wasn't sealed up properly when they coverted the house to public water.

Same thing happened here a while ago, except it was an old sewage pit not a well...

Lucky for me, my leg wasn't long enough to reach what was in there!

Yeah, better fill it the right way so we don't have another boy stuck in a well story. Remember that fiasco from years ago..

Is that how you fill it? I been looking for like an hour and everyone says something different. I'm thinking #2 stone then dirt on the top??

Yes. I do excavating for a living. #2 stone will be the best. Fill it up with stone and then topsoil..

Ill add it will also be best to cover the top of the stone with filter fabric and key the fabric into exsiting ground then topsoil it so your topsoil will not fall into the voids of the stone during rains creating a dip in the yard.

It may be cheaper to use "certified" clean fill. Definition of "certified" varies with state environmental requirements. #2 clean stone can get expensive by comparison.

Yes but that deep of a hole the fill dirt would need to be compacted in "lifts" to be done right even tho it may be a " green area" or else itll settle over time.

Because of where my house is located, I cant get a dump truck in my front yard. Gonna have to move 6-7 yards by hand / four wheeler and wagon :/
