I haven't posted here in a while but boy do i have a story for you guys...

I went on a 4 day trip across central Florida from June 22-25 to see my favorite band, Simple Plan (hence the title) a pop punk band from Montreal, perform 3 live concerts. You may or may not remember that I was introduced to their music because of this song, "untitled(how could this happen to me?)" which has an LT1 T/A (which is either a 95 or 96, i'm pretty sure it's a 95) in the video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQ7oqmikZDQ

note the T/A gets wrecked in the video....oh the irony....

While traveling from Orlando to Palm Beach Gardens on Friday, June 24th, i was on the 417 near the Orlando airport and was supposed to get onto the Turnpike heading south but missed the exit and was planning on getting off at the next exit and turning around. Being that the 417 is a toll road, the next exit ended up being past the next toll booth and i went over into the pay by cash lanes instead of going through the sunpass lanes like i normally would. I was 3rd in line behind some pickup truck and a jeep patriot SUV. For whatever reason, the guy at the window was taking forever paying his toll. 3 or 4 minutes pass by and i'm just sitting there waiting so i look down at the GPS on my phone to see where i could turn around at. All of a sudden *boom*! I felt the impact on the front of my car. WTF? my first thought was i never let off the brakes. I look up and see what happened as there is a jeep on my hood and bumper WITH ITS REVERSE LIGHTS ON!

these were taken after the accident in a parking lot. her jeep has one teeny tiny scrape on the bottom of the bumper. The woman claimed she didn't know i was stopped behind here and that she had looked in the mirror and saw a car (presumably one further back) backing up and moving to another toll booth so she throws it in reverse to do the same and well, i had been stopped behind her the whole freaking time.

I go onto the concert and ended up hanging out with the band a bit after the show and had wanted to get a pic with one or all of them with my car cause of these crazy coincidences.

I got a little more than that LOL. I ended up giving Jeff Stinco, the lead guitarist, a ride to his hotel in my car. Jeff actually helped me get a ticket to the first show of the 3 which was invite only via a radio contest that i didn't end up winning (was caller 3 once, caller 9 another time, they wanted #10). Incidentally my Twitter ID is BLK95TA and Pierre, SP's lead singer once commented on my twitter ID during a Vlog they did. Jeff has been following me on twitter for over 2 years.

After I got home I called my insurance company, Grundy, and filed the claim with all the information i had from the woman at the accident (copy of DL, rental agreement, plate # etc) oh and i forgot to mention another ironic twist. She was from the UK and Friday June 24th was the day the UK left the EU. Seriously? LOL

The insurance company comes out and assesses the damage at $4800 because they were going to replace the $2026 WS6 hood. I had already had one shop look at it and they said it was easily repairable. Turns out the hood is also discontinued so i couldn't have gotten a new one anyway. They cut me a check for $4300 after my deductible (i might still get that at some point)

I had originally planned on getting the front end repaired at one shop for around $2400 but a friend of mine turned me onto a Maaco that offers a Plantinum paint package for $2699 which basically includes all body work. The owner is a friend of my friend and knows my car goes to a lot of local car shows and would make a good display piece so he gives me a bit of a discount and i get the whole car resprayed for $2500 including wetsanding and buffing and new door emblems. i put another couple hundred into decals and the rest into maintenance which i'll show pics of.

restoration begins

not a great shot of it, but i had them take out one ding in the rear 1/4 that was there before i bought the car in 04. it had been PDR'd but now it was being fixed completely before paint

While the car was at the body shop (was there for 4 weeks from late june to late july), i ordered a bunch of stuff for it with the rest of the insurance money.

I spent around $700 in labor having shocks and fuel pump installed as well.

Overall the car came out great and i'm glad i wasn't the one paying for it, LOL.

good to hear. I thought i'd tell my story since it's definitely a good example of why you should have collector's insurance.

Nice write up... glad everything turned out ok. As most know, Im a big fan of specialty insurance after getting my 25k for totalling the camaro, as compared to the 3k book value I wouldve gotten without Hagarty.

Seeing as I haven't had my car up and running in 7 yrs, the minute I do go out as you hear a lot of people go through they end up getting hit out of the blue. It would suck the balls for sure especially only being valued at Blue book but it wouldn't hurt as bad knowing I can recoup close to what I have in it. Still would rather have the car but I would be forever thankful I could do it again w/ the proceeds from the Ins Co.
