View Full Version : Car juices starting to flow again.

So working on week 4 since the loss of my pride and joy and the modifying juices are starting to flow again.
Will still be a while b4 anything big gets done... but Im putting some thought into it.
As u know I have a roughly 800hp engine and a 6 spd trans ready to go. Its set up OBD1... and so are both of my cars... the TA and the IMPALA so it should be a pretty straigjt fwd swap.
I also have an N20 kit from harner that one of the cars will get.
Here is my dilema. Idk what car should get what stuff.
Option 1;
Boosted 6 speed Impala ss... pretty straight fwd as to what this entails. Basically everythimg from the camaro goes into the Impala.
With that being said... the TA gets an N20 converter and inherits the impalas engine with the bottle in front of the CPT trans. If the camaro rear is fixable or not messed up... it will get that as well.
Option 2;
The trans Am gets the camaros motor. Better converter for the boost and I will actually race it as an auto boosted car.
With that being said... the impala would get the N20 and the 6spd behind its current 367rwhp motor.
Option 3;
The trans Am gets everything from the camaro... and basically set up just as the camaro was as a boosted 6spd with 602/540.
The Impala would then remain the same but on the bottle.
Again... this is all hypothetical right now... and I still need to find what broke in the camaro or failed and what was damaged.
Thoughts?
I already know what u will say Shaun T. Everything into the Impala. Lol.

Doubt it. Only one that would be left would be the high mileage stock one in the ta.

I would toss the boosted motor into the imp and leave the TA as a "racecar" on the bottle.
You seemed to enjoy cruising the boost setup more than racing it so the Imp seems like a nice home for it.

Would u spray the stock motor in the TA .... or put the Impalas h/c Motor in there with the bottle?

Spray the TA with its original motor till it blows or you know how to work nitrous systems, then swap in the H/C motor. From what I gather the TA motor is garbage/disposable to you regardless, yes?

Well it would get bagged and stored just in case for the future. But for the most part its not important to me.

Id honestly take the ta motor. Atleast i know the history from the previous owner to you. My 94 anything beyond harner is rather questionable.
Option 1, i dont see you beating on the camaro's "heart" to be honest.

Also a much easier direction to go.
Option #4 get an S10 blazer and put the camaro's heart in it.

Only issue which is minor is dual pumps or a big single for the impala and the pedal conversion, also the blower bracket is different but i have one for an impala. Intercooler piping would change some. Beyond that its minor

I dont see why I cant use the motor set up the way it is. I think the camaro set up should fit right in there... i could re clock the blower to point a different direction... no?

Your lonnies double pumper would have to be way modified to fit, completely different style tank. The impala is a b body that was around for years, tank isnt even baffled. Its an old school rectangular tank.
Also no, your camaro procharger bracket and accessory bracket are totally different. The motor on the impala actually sits further down and back than the fbody. Hence bbody balancer/accessory bracket pushes accessories out further, and theres those pesky things called a frame rail/steering box on the driver side that wont let the blower sit down that low. It will basically be up where the abs block is currently on the impala, which would have to either be moved or deleted.
This is how high up the supercharger has to be to clear the steering box/frame rail/steering linkagehttp://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161020/08bb31dcd47f72f1db47eedaccf5f9f8.jpg

Idk... the last show I was at... the impala was hangin the procharger downlow like the camaro does.... ill have to look at it closer .
As for thr pumps... im sure we can figure something out with that...
Finally with the abs... its disabled anyways since the rear end abs ring broke during the gear changes... so no biggie with that.

I think you're going to want the same reliability and fun the camaro had. I think the 6 speed would keep the impala fun to drive. I personally probably wouldn't spray it just because with the engine from the camaro in the ta, if I wanted to go fast, that's what I'd drive.

Well looks like most of the extra work for the impala has been covered, but also the crossmember and driveshaft from the camaro would also transfer over to the T/A where as the impala's would need modification.

Option #1...Like like the idea of a rocket couch plus your Camaro was a really nice cruiser/show car; I think the Impy is the best candidate for that. Toss the rear in the TA and spray it hard. If you pop it racing your only down a stock block. Slam a spare in and keep it moving.

I've got to throw in a vote for #3. I love driving my car and as much as you liked driving the Camaro the TA would be really close. It's an easy swap to get you back to having a great time. Make the impala what you want but it's not going to be the camaro. If you want to race something get a car that is built for racing not a nice car that will end up getting tore up and abused. That's a pretty TA with a beautiful color on it.

I'd swap the boost into the T/A. That would be a straight forward swap. And if you want to get really wild and you're gonna race the T\A, put the nitrous in there also!!! keep the stock motor and build it for a spare. That leaves the six speed and impala...the way Chevy should've built them!!!!

So due to the complexity of swapping the boosted motor into the impala... and all of the additional mods that would be required as well as my LOW MOTIVATION to invest myself emotionally like I did with the camaro... here is what Im thinkin...
For now the TA will get all the non engine/trans parts from the Camaro...
The motor and stuff will go in my man cave. I have an NOS kit coming from harner for he ta and it will go on the TAs stock motor... if I pop it... the n20 will go to the impala... and maybe the 6 spd behind the h/c motor thats in there. The motor makes 367 to the wheels... so its respectable. Add a 100 shot and it will be mid 400z to the wheels.
At that point I think the TA will get the camaro's boosted heart. In front of the built automatic. If I break that motor... ill build it and return it to the impala and it can take bigger shots. Lol
Whatcha all think?
Still a long ways off. But I like having a plan.

#3, convert the TA to six speed and swap the entire set up. It's all already set up for an F-body. Basically just using the TA for a shell to swap the Camaro parts to.

Well... ive been doing alot of thinking... and although I have not made a decision on where the motor will go, I believe I have decided where the transmission will go. Assuming the 6spd (ill send it out to be gone over) is ok... I believe I want a b-body to row. So it will be a while till we get the camaro to the shop to strip the drive train... but when we do... I will tote up all the 6 spd stuff and order whatevwr is needed for the swap, and hopefully the NEXT WINTER project will be the 6 spd swap behind the current "TUBBY" engine set up...
I guess the way I see it is... I enjoy cruisin the Impala and I believe it will hold its value better as a swap (or not) than the TA would. And as far as Im concerned... i believe the Impala will be my "emotional void filler" for the camaro, whether it gets the motor or not.

So the more time passes... the more thoughts I get.
Now Im thinkin the TA is gonna get the boosted 385 as everythimg will easily swap over with no need to fabricate or really buy anything new. It will go in front of the automatic which will get sent back to CPT to handle the extra power if required. Definitely a new TC.
The motor that comes out of the ta will then get built and the Impala may get a rear mounted turbo set up... will all depend if I blow the motor up and how bad with the N20 kit from harner till the swap happens...
Once the swap happens... Ill have an N20 kit for sale.
This is the way Im leaning FOR NOW, but with many months ahead of me till the camaro drivetrain gets pulled... still have lots of time for this to change.
The Impala may still get the 6 spd... but then again... I may have the trans and tc upgraded by cpt for the turbo build... wanna try to give ALEX S, a run for his money with the ol LTX...

Well... with many of my friends building fast ls sc sedans... I feel it's time for me to step up the game with the Impala. For those that have not seen my "stand alone" thread, the plan will be to put the camaros heart in the Impala (when we finally get it out of the camaro).
Im looking to upgrade the P1SC to an F series blower to finally throw the boost at the motor that we built it for... looking for 15 to 20#s.
I know I know... we will see what it gets but those were the intentions for that motor when we built it the last time.
I will be keepimg the Impala an automatic car... obviously with a trans and tc upgrade from cpt to hamdle the additional power...
I will either pack up and store the 6 spd swap stuff for a later date... or I will put it up for sale (no idea what to ask for it...)
I will also be putting the P1sc up for sale as well if anyone is interested...
Plans for the TA are still to get harner s n20 system and whatever suspension stuff the camaro has salvageable as well as the rear of its ok...
