Very nice forged 383 ltx shortblock for sale.

hey guys originally bought this from a forum member but have never got the chance to install it. here are the details:


-1997 2 bolt main LT1 block with all new plugs and bearings--mains reinforced with Pro-Gram caps-see pics.
-12.4:1 compression if you use 55cc combustion chambered heads (still safe for an LT1 running 91 octane fuel)
-block cleaned, clearanced, decked, align bored, etc (bored .030 over using deck plates for perfectly round cylinders)
-Studded mains with Pro-Gram 2 bolt main "strap" girdles over machined stock caps (VERY nice, strong pieces)
-Mahle PowerPak forged and coated -5cc flat top pistons with the rings that came with the piston kit
-Callies forged 6" rods
-Callies/Howards Cams Track Smart 3.75 stroke forged/nitrided 4340 steel crank (1 piece RMS)
-Rotating assembly and stock flywheel (for T56 tranny) all balanced by Jerry at Jteam Custom Engines
-Brand new Melling oil pump (standard volume so it doesn't suck all the oil out of the pan)
-New oil pickup and tube
-Lifter spider and hardware
-Brand new water pump gear/drive shaft bearing
-Stock LT1 oil pan (YES it clears the stroker crank and rods) and windage tray (not installed yet in pics)


Engine was professionally built by Jerry at Jteam Custom Engines. He has been building engines for over 30 years.

-96-97 timing cover
-stock intake manifold

shipping would be expensive but would entertain it for the the right price. i work at fedex freight and could get it sent to another fedex freight location to cut shipping cost.

How does this compare to a Golen shortblock 383? Never built an engine so im not to sure about compression and what not.

Id stay away from golen, heard bad stories since they got big. Even ellwein buys bare blocks from golen and still has them checked.

Even with their 3 year warranty? I can't see paying 6k for just a shortblock from someone like ERE. Also how reliable is buying a shortblock from a forum. I'm not sure what to do and don't want to spend an arm AND a leg.

anything from karl ellwein is meticulously built to perfection. The man literally changes his gloves more than a doctor, and his attention to detail is amazing. If you have a block already its a little cheaper depending on which parts you use. The blocks listed on his site are the quicky click and order type.

Now as for golen, just because they offer a warranty, doesnt mean there isnt fine print. Ive dealt with companies that offer warranties, and they have a million ways to get out of them. The little guys usually stand behind their work. Karl ellwein, frank cahall, just to name a few that stand 100% behind it, even if the dumbass person installing something accidentally breaks it in 20 miles (cough me cough) due to a dumb mistake on my part.

Back to this thread, if i had the money, id buy this immediately. This is a good deal.

No, not all of it. Karl just grabs blocks from them sometimes. Most people bring him their own blocks. He has a guy in maryland just for splayed 4 bolt conversions and another really good machinist for bore/hone/decking. He saved Ltconverts motor that had some small rust blemishes in the bore without going nuts, went from 4.030 to 4.032

that golem shortblock has a CAST scat crank and forged scat rods. the mahle pistons are not specified but say forged. that golem engine also has four bolt mains. but also reported by tubby the reviews of late have not been spectacular. my shortblock has forged Howards/Callies forged crank and Callies forged compstar rods as well as Mahle forged flat top pistons all very strong and very reliable.mine is two bolt main but with reinforced Pro-Gram studded main caps, very strong. also this week its 1300 dollars cheaper then the link you provided, the shop that built this engine has been building them for a very long time. lets try to keep this thread dedicated to selling this block. thanks Tubby Z28 for the kind words,wish you had the funds lol. lets get this block sold. year is 97 as stated in original post
