Well... its the painful end to my friend the camaro...

Well the end of an era has come. Before I go into this any further, I ask that no one post about this outside of this post, as I have some family that is currently traveling back home from vacation and I do not want them stressed and worried. I know I have other family on here, and I ask that you please respect that as well for me to let them know when they return. All responses or comments go here as I have this post hidden.

If you look close in the photo, you will see the camaro's final resting place before I was transported to the hospital. She is Done... there is no doubt that the car will be totalled at this point..

Let me begin with saying I am fine. I HAVE a contusion to my head, as well as below my left knee. I was consious the entire time and actually handled the scene until emergency crews arrived. Robeson & Birdsboro police as well as fire and ambulance from the area were fantastic. I walked on my own to the gurney and on the ambulance... i called angela from inside the car as I waited for help to get out... and even told the nice lady who called 911 for me, what to say so that they did not dispatch unnecessary services. Got to the ER, i walked in... i walked from bed to cart and back again several times as they scanned... cat scanned xrayed... etc etc etc... Well turns out... I broke my hip... so Im here to stay, at least till I see the surgeon to discuss what he wants to do 2moro.

Kinda funny... i walk here... i walk there... i walk with no issue, then they tell me "u have to stay, cause u cant walk." Lol, I beg to differ.

Of course knowing how much Angela would worry and panic, I knew how important it was that I be the one to call her. Also that i be calm and minimize the incident. She arrived at the hospital to be with me... fighting tears the whole time no matter how much i reassured her that I was ok... she only left a lil bit ago to pick up stuff for me and pick up the items that were being secured for me at the pd. Thanku my love...

Now for what happened... because I know thats whats on everyones mind... I was heading to the PC&C event this am, traveling on 724. As we passed the Robeson Twp Pd building, there is a passing lane. I was following a beautiful red 3? Street rod that was traveling around 40. We were in a 55mph zone, so i (5th gear) signalled and switched lanes. Began accelerating, and as i was just passing him... something happened... the camaro turned hard right, just ahead of his front bumper, all i could think was IM GONNA WRECK, I CANT TAKE THIS GUYS CAR OUT WITH ME. Between his braking and me fighting it, i slid right past him and nailed the guiderail with the front driver side fender of the camaro, which then swung the left rear into the guiderail, and began the violent spin like a top...

Bracing myself in the drivers area, as I was not wearing a seatbelt, I shot across the roadway towards the trees and drop off... seeing it coming, I put my head down and braced for impact...

The car and I charged into the treeline sideways and came to rest with the passenger side against a tree and a concrete drainage piece...

As i said earlier... i was concious the entire time and I remember every bit of it. Checked myself over from head to tow, and found a bruise on the side of my head and the hip pain. Police arrived on location, and helped me get out as i was unsure of the extent of damage to my hip. I was armed so I released my piece to the officer to hold for me as I walked to the ambulance. I even stopped and went back to get my vape... lol.

While in the ambulance, I asked if I could sit in a regular chair cause laying down was uncomfortable.

While Angela was here with me in the hospital, i called and spoke with the officer. He advised me that the guy I was passing said that he was going 40 and I was not going that fast when I passed... told him it was odd cause the car just turned... the officer actually stated that the guy said it appeared as though the "rear, or rear axle had broken, turning the car around violently." So Ill be checking out the car when I get a chance.

Long story short... the end of an era has come. The camaro that so many know as my car is done... I hope to get photos later, when I am allowed to leave the hospital, however for now... I lay and wait to see if they are going to screw me back together, or what...

Im currently pretty medicated, so I may not answer messages or texts etc, but feel free to holla. Not alot to do here, ya know. Lol.

Oh yeah... i had it insured for the max agreed upon with hagarty... either 25k or 30k... cant remembwr without paperwork.

I called the tow company and asked how bad it was and... he just laughed... and said... "its dun buddy."

So after a long discussiom with the surgeon... and going round and round... Im going home for now... surgeon is not convinced the invasive surgery is the way to go. Says Im in good shape and young and if I follow instructions I could heal without surgery just as quickly, without any of the horrendous pain and discomfort that will come from the surgery. Only bad side is if I mess up... I can break of the fractured piece of the hip, which would.... require a slighlty more extensive surgery. Im willing to take those odds. So... getting my crutches... walker... home based pt... then waiting on discharge. Dont mistake this... Im still out in excess of 12 weeks...

They did tell me tonexpect the arthritis either way as well.

Im not out of the woods yet... next weeks re cat scan will decide whether we do surgery or not...

Damn hate to hear this but glad your ok, or at least better than you could be for not having a belt on! Sounds like the car did it's job of protecting you and hopefully you can keep it and reuse some of the parts. It sucks how fast all the money and man hours that go into a car can be ruined so quickly but at least you were the only occupant and doing ok.

As I was told buy a well-known car restoration shop. Any thing can be fixed. Hear just a couple months ago. On the freeway I had the same quarter panel wrinkle in the bottom and when I took it into the frame shop. Phot is to to show what's there after removing the bumper cover and the is around 12 in of mater before you get to the structure of her in the back and front.

Anything can be fixed... i agree. But payout will only come to me if its totalled... no way the insurance co will bay 20k+ to fix a car that books for like 3k.

Thats why we pay the extra money for the specialty insurance with the "agreed upon" value of 25k. I have well over 30 in the car over the past decade+.

Im glad I insured it appropriately.

Well nothing concrete yet... but i was told as soon as it was uncovered he knew it was totalled however he had to put a value on what was of any worth to the salvage yard. Said it wont be much due to no iseable panels. .

Ultimately we will see how this goes... its a first for me.

So today is the day I had offered my TA to the car club to be used in an event at the mall. I planned on taking the camaro to the show American-Powerhouse was throwing at the same time... well since the crash, everything has changed.

So the guys from the club were nice enough to come get the car and take it to the event.

Well the insurance company has responded to me with a buy back for the car. The figure is well below what I had in my mind... however I still responded with a counter to see if it was negotiable... so I WILL be buying her back (to salvage what i can, not to rebuild). Another stress relieved... now just curious if its negotiable. Lol.

I wont know until i can dismantle the car. All i can tell u is ud think something came up behind me at 100mph and never hit the brakes. No warning... no signs... vibrations... skids... just thew me fwd in my seat and b4 my back came back against the seat I was sideways...

Stopped at the garage today and uncovered the camaro to collect some stuff... a friends pcm... ss floormats... pillar moldings with pods and guages... gun mount... etc.

This was the first time I got to look at the interior of the car. She is skinnier than she used to be. The floor is buckeled the long way... down at the passenger jamn... up at the tunnel which is now taller and skinnier...

All i can say is Im glad my wife was not with me... she definitely would have taken the worst of it if she had been in the car...

But as I walked around the car... i couldnt help but notice... the only panel that had superficial damage but for the most part was in tact was my drivers side door.

Like seriously, every panel on the car is destroyed except for my door...

I can only imagine how you feel and could not imagine what it would be like loose my car that I have had for a vary long time. Keep on doing what you have been doing string active in the community and making progress with your other LTX cars.

Spent the day up at a friends house... sitting on my ass, watching. As they cleaned and prepped the car for its final "cruise."

Removed all of the jagged glass still attached... cleaned out all of the interior glass that was everywhere... plus what the emergency crews shoveled into the car at the scene.

Even started removing some interior stuff... for seap over to the TA and to give away and sell here.

Well... wish me luck. Yesterday was 3 weeks since i crashed and broke my hip.

Ive been following all of the dr restrictions which is no weight bearing on my right leg... im home 99% of the week on lock down... and going crazy.

2moro is my 2nd ct scan simce my release from the hospital, and Im hoping the results show some fusing in the break and no negative displacement. As long as thats what we see... i will continue to be on the same road to NO SURGERY recovery.

If it shows no healing or some negative movement... we start back at step one and discuss surgery.

Which will mean starting the clock again only with longer heal time of 6 months... ugh.

Im kinda worried because it has beem hurting. Although I can live with the pain, I worry that its a bad sign.

6 Months? Are you sure they didn't say 6 weeks? My wife, at age 70, had a full hip replacement and had only 6 weeks recovery time (with physical rehab) before she was fairly mobile.
Sounds like the pain is the result of not being immobilized enough while healing. Maybe some screws in the hip would help that and be less invasive.

Just don't want it sitting outside at the shop as winter approaches and being in the way as well as a constant concern... with snow fall and removal... dishonest people in the area... mice and other bugs and stuff finding home inside her... having the engine unprotected... etc. So she will be home one last time till its time to dismantle her.

Blahhhh... well good news and annoying news. Just got the call back from the surgeons office. No negative displacement, and signs of healing are there. Thats the GOOD news. Now for the annoying part. Still have the same restrictions... No weight bearing... No driving... till next appointment for xrays to monitor it. Now the most annoying part... Next appointment is 4 MORE WEEKS!!!! So Im on "house arrest"for another month minimum.

These are just pics of our car club... the pics dont do the decorating much justice... there was a fog machine inside and in front of the car along with strobes and zombie dummies... blood splattered and bloody handprints under the car. All in the name of having fun at the Boyertown halloween parade. Several hundred entrees in this parade... it was huge!

Yeah... i hear u. Actually plan on starting a lite lifting regimine again. Hardest part is loading the weights or picking them from down low... so I will just need to be careful and creative.

I said the same thing to my wife... prob woulda split my head in half with a cage or bar.

As for my injury... i broke the hip off of the ceter console... i think that would have happened either way. In fact.. its the female end of the seatbelt holder that i beleive really broke my hip as I pinched it between me and the center console when i made the passenger side ending impact...

So many variables... i think im in for a big suprise when we pull the seats and carpet... i think the floor is gonna have one hell of a story to tell.

Dude I'm glad you are alright, but forget losing a dog or a cat, that's painful, but this is so much worse, it's like you were riding your dog and it died, you saw it die, that's painful. I know we all think we are good drivers... but I have done extensive training in EVOC as well as certification as an EVOC instructor. I know I know what Im doing... and yet... its a persistent nightmare.

I was lucky that I insured her the way i did, and I am lucky to have her back in the garage with the powertrain hopefully unharmed. So it makes me happy to give away whatever I can to help others.

As u know, this forum... this community means the world to me, and Id never try to prosper from it. I bought into it to help others amd to keep a place for our community to remain alive. So handing stuff away for free... or even at a loss . Is still a WIN for me. And ur right... there is a feeling of satisfaction knowing that she will live on i many other peoples rides.

If u dont mind posting a link where u shared my build, id love to see some comments and zid be happy to give some input to anyone who needs the direction who are trying to do the same.

Big thanks to LT1convert and Tubby Z28 for comin over and helping (doing all of it) strip the rest of the camaro interior. I really appreciate all of the help.

Pretty scary to see the car without the interior and finding that it was tearing apart like a sheet of aluminum foil.

Pretty scary how bad the car was twisting. The floor and the roof were starting to tear. Im guessing had it not been for the huge subframe connectors... it was on its way to splitting into 2...

Honestly, i think without the subframe connector, the passenger side rocker wouldve been touching the tunnel or damn near it. K member is ripped too. Somehow all the rear suspension looked ok

Well whatever is ok is gonna make its way on to the TA...

I think its still amazing how the driver seat compartment and door are all but untouched from the crash... like I had a forcefield just around me and my area in the car...

Well... this weekend will be 8 weeks since the crash. Monday will be 4 weeks since my last scan...

Thats 8 weeks of NO WEIGHT BEARING restictions with NO DRIVING.

Wish me luck that everything is healing well and the dr lifts SOME of my restrictions after this Monday's appointment.

I cant keep going the way this has been going...
