I tried searching but couldn't get an answer. If I buy aftermarket valve springs, do I need to get the retainers and such, as well? Can I use the factory retainers?

Honestly, for the sake of security I would... are you doing a cam?

the Crane 10308 kit is amazingly priced and comes with dual springs/locks/retainers/and shims

Yea. It first started with me deciding to do a simple tune up (cap/rotor/timing chain) and I figured I might as well unbolt a few more things and put a cam in. What do you mean "for the sake of security"? It these anything that can break?

There is a chance that after prolonged periods of time, the metal weakens, I just wouldn't risk them breaking... Some springs do need specific locks/retainers though

I understand that certain springs require certain retainers, but I didn't know that the metal can warp/crack. My father has some titanium retainers from his old chevy 350cid race motor. I'll have to check and see if they'll work.

How much lift will the Crane 10308 kit handle? Good for a small cam?

.710 according to their website and my calculations

You may lose some power (think ~5hp) with these springs but they will handle it..

I have the kit with my cc306
