1996 Eclipse RS build

As you have probably seen, I just picked up a 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS. YES...its the base model, no turbo... manual windows... seats, etc.

Its automatic but has SOME tastefull mods.

130+ k miles, and it runs great.

It was a deal i could not pass up. A friend contacted me about scraping it, but it looked nice enough that i made an offer instead.

The car belonged to her son and would not pass inspection. A shop told them it needed ball joints at a cost of 1k !!!!

It had sentimental value to her son, because it belonged to a friend of his that passed away. That was something I learned the day i picked it up (thanku SSlowBoat).

Anyways, when I found that out, I was gonna have it gone over and if the cost was not ridiculous, the plan was to fix it... inspect it and give it back to her kid.

Well I found it needed some rear struts and tie rods... most of the work is done so I approached the family with my offer.

Her son began crying when I offered it because I believe my offer meant alot to him, but also because he didnt have the means to continue to maintain it... soooo it looks like I have an econobox to add to my collection.

I paid 500 for the car, and the parts to fix it will be about 300 when all said and done.

So Im in to it at 800 bucks... now to decide what to do with it. It books between 1k and 1500 ish the way it sits

It has lowering springs... custom wheels... msd coil wires and a cai the way it sits.

Sooooooo

Do I clean it up and flip it?

Do I keep it and just drive it as the 140hp econobox that it is?

Do I add a lil boost to it to wake it up and hope it flips to some kid that wants a turbo eclipse without the turbo car insurance...

From a financial perspective I would just clean it up and sell. By clean it up, I mean give it a good detail and make sure it's in good running order. There isn't much money to be made but I know that wasn't your entire intent when you picked it up.

I'm very much in the dark about the boost game and imports overall but I've always heard guys say that you can scoop up a 500 dollar eBay t3/t4 turbo kit and a manifold for 200 more and have a nasty little critter on your hands for less than 2k overall.

Kinda, parts are dated for those cars now, you pay asshole import tax now. Trust me, I deal with it for the maxima.

The 420a isn't the best motor if you're looking to boost, but if it's just for fun then it could be a good time. If it was mine I would clean it up and grab a good set of snow tires (and maybe some smaller wheels) and use it as a winter beater.

Im not "looking" to boost. Was just a thought ifnit was the same motor i wouldbe scavenged a wrecked gst or gsx for thw turbo stuff.

I raced a GS with a turbo on it in my purple T/A back when it was N/A making about 345/360 at the wheels with BAD gearing. It wasn't pretty for him, lol. So I'll say no on the speed. Besides, can't go too fast, you'll end up spinning out.

I forgot, a friend of mine had one of these cars in convertible form. Non-turbo, red, vert, manual. It was a chick magnet, for sure, but ultimately a slow turd. Sounds like it's ready to go to a new home already!

Ok. Ordered some after market headlights since the factory ones are in such bad shape, so gonna hold off on the spoiler. Time for a super clean up, then register, inspect and put for sale decals on it.

I drove it home the other day, the thing really runs great!

Dropped it off at Royal customs for some final stuff before I put her up for sale.

I am having the whole csr detailed, previous owner was not about keeping it clean. To say the least.

Also... the headlights had been covered in some chemical that melted them.
I PURCHASED some aftermarket headlights with some halos to be installed.

Glad I didnt try doing them myself, cause to get to the lower tabs of the headlights it needed to have the front bumper removed.

Also... some of the window trim was worn... so having that fixed as well...

This is pre detailing, but after the new headlights have been installed.

The car is by no means fast, especially as an automatic,but its fun to drive with as nimble as it is. I planned on putting it up for sale when done, but I may keep it for a bit to rip around in.

If anyone here is interested in it for a gas sipper or a childs first car... let me know. I would sell it to a member of this community for exactly what I have in it at the time.

Well all but one of the groups of people I had lined up for this car no longer have rhe money to buy it. I have offered it for sale for what I have in it and still cant believe its still in my possession.

One last couple comin to look at it this week for a first car for their daughter... if they dont take it I will actually post it up and advertise it for sale...

Asking 3k... will drop to what I have in it... 2,557.00 if anyone is interested.

I dont have alot of history on the car but it runs great for what it is... an automatic 4cyl... and it looks awesome... only negatives is a scratch on the hood and a scuff on the back right quarterpanel...

Oh well... we will see.
