Im looking to do a turbo on my car. the thing is I have no idea what setup to use or even if my car can handle it and if it can how much can i handle. heres a list of a few things if have.

355 LT1 . 360 rwhp
Ported and polished stock heads, intake and throttle body.
LT4 hot cam with 1.6 RRs.
.030 forged pistons
SLP ceramic coated shorties.
Stock y-pipe and cats.
Borla catback.
Trifecta tune.
Tuned up less than 500 miles ago with TR55s.

Drivetrain
New Spec stage 2 clutch and billet flywheel
new poly trans mount
Strange S-60 with 3.73s, 35 splines and detroit true trac.
Speed inc nitro drive shaft
B&M shifter

thought about getting longtubes and or lloyd elliot LE2 heads first and get rid of that hotcam. Any suggestions? thanks tom

Do you know what compression your motor currently has?

chances are with a NA 355 you are still 10.4:1 or more.. the motor (even if forged) wont last that long under boost as high compression will start to detonate at a much lower boost level resulting in your pistons frying

so i guess forced induction is kinda out of the question?

Unless you plan on changing your pistons, you wont get away with any more than 5-6 psi safely, some people run 9 on stock motors but they dont last long, find out your CR and then we can be more specific

It depends... if you have -31cc pistons you can get down close to 9:1 CR which is perfect for boost. You need to figure out what pistons you have.

If you can even get the compression down to around 9.5:1 you should be in good shape to run a fair amount of boost. One warning boost is very addictive.

I dont plan on running alot as it will be pretty much a cruiser. Iv only put 4k miles on in 5 months.is there a way to find out my compresion ratio ? iv got most of the reciepts but cant find the ratio. i found the part # for the pistions. can i find it out with that?

we need the pistons, deck height of the block, chamber size of the heads and thickness of the gaskets, bore and stroke

Even on 5psi the car will be pretty nasty, what about procharger? thats the route i am going

was just thinkin that it would be more economical with the turbo. Am i goin to have the same issue with the procharger with my compression as with the turbo?

Im not to sure about that, but i know turbos can be more troublesome and alot more work. Plus you can keep your longtubes if you have them and not have to buy all new exhaust.

i go turbo for the cool, and not everyone has one factor. That being said, it is a lot of fabrication work if you DIY. Jim is running a p600 procharger on a stock LT1 @ 6 psi and it seems to be holding up well. you can always go STS rear mount...

what about cost difference? used , new?

from what i have priced the seem to run neck and neck both used and new. A used turbo kit usually dosent include the turbo itself, and if it does it usually needs a rebuild. The same could be said for a used SC, but most used kits come with it. Plan on about 2500-3500 used and 3500-5000 new IMHO. P.S. ask jimw about his used kit, he knows a lot about the procharger.

In both instances, forced induction thrives in low compression motors... if you keep the boost low it will be okay in a higher compression motor (depending on how high the compression is) but it will not be optimal
