Effective May 1, New Jersey is eliminating tailpipe emissions tests on the 200,000 remaining vehicles 1995 model year and older.

Since they eliminated safety inspections several years ago, it would appear that 1995 and older models will no longer need an inspection of any kind. I need to verify that :D. 1996 and newer model inspections will continue to utilize only connecting to the OBD-2 diagnostics.

Yup, happy days for me.

None of my vehicles need a state inspection sticker anymore. Still gotta watch out for the mobile smog test stations though.

I haven't seen a mobile smog setup in years, except maybe a couple for diesel trucks a while back. Are they still doing that? Working for a road construction company, I've driven over 250,000 miles in Ocean, Monmouth, Middlesex, Mercer, and Burlington counties in recent years, without seeing one.

I am not sure what Texas' deal is in regard to this, but a lot of states have long done away with OBD1 testing. The amount of vehicles on the road that are OBD 1 are far and few between. Also it doesn't make fiscal sense for auto repair shop to maintain the emission dynos when so few vehicles are left that still require OBD1 testing. I am still required to pass a smog test till the car turns 25. I obviously can not, so it's an added hassle every year. With out it, you're unable to register the vehicle since they went down to a 1 sticker system. Good news for y'all I suppose.

They had one in Warren County by Phillipsburg one day when I was in my Hotcammed firebird. I poo'd myself a little and immediately made a left

Info on NJ Motor Vehicle website confirms no inspections of any kind, no stickers. You will receive a notice before your car would normally be due for inspection. Will confirm no inspection required, tell you to remove sticker, and include a certificate indicating no sticker required, in you get pulled over.

As good as this is, DO NOT migrate to NJ. Outrageous taxes, overcrowded with a population density that is actually higher than India, ludicrous insurance costs, etc..

Last time in Jersey I broke two cardinal rules:
1. I asked for someone to repeat their directions
2. Reached for a nozzle to get my own fucking gas
