This race has not happened yet and thought I would get some opinions. The guy in the GTO raced my brothers bone stock 98 Z last night and lost by 1 car. We agreed to race when the weather gets a little warmer. I stomped my brothers car by about 3-4 cars each time we raced. I think I will win but what just curious what you all thought. The GTO hooked pretty hard with no wheel spin from the 10 roll and either of the 30 rolls. I run drag radials so I am not worried about wheel spin. My mods are in my sig. Thanks

Shouldn't be a problem. GTO is heavier, though he's probably packing a little more power too.

I dont think you will have any prob beating him unless he gets some more mods b4 the race

I took a LS1 GTO with my piddly mods, they are heavy and have a hard time hooking. Good Luck!

My Camaro against a stock LS1 GTO when I had only a CAI and catback.

I think you should get him pretty good.

At an altitude of less than 400' and a DA of less than 1000 maybe. With slicks haha. They are potent cars from a roll, but they are so damn heavy. Huge disadvantage.

I'm not doubting it at all. They put down what? 340rwhp I'm guessing. Even in a 3800lb car, that should be 12's without a doubt. Just gotta get that pig movin!

Doesnt it piss you off too???lol. Then again I saw a silver cammed ls2 goat run 13.3 on DRs at GLD last time I was there. Im sure he was pissed about that but his car sounded nice.

My 95 ET'ed better than a buddy's 06 LS2 GTO, however his trap was much higher (mine 101, his 106). It came down to driver in my case.

If they only trap 106 Im really looking forward to running one. I figured they would be upwards of 110.

In his defense it was his first time to the track, ever. 6 speed, and hardly any track prep too.

You should have seen the vid we took the first run. I was three cars ahead before he ever hit the gas pedal. I told him to leave on the 3rd yellow, but I'm sure you everyone remembers their first time, he waited till he seen the green:jest: I was literally out of the frame when he left.

Awesome thanks guys for the great responses. I was a little nervous after the race last night but after watching that video I have a lot of confidence.

My first pass ever down the drag strip I had a .521 light on a .500 bracket tree.

What elevation is the track you go to? With your mods and 60', I think your ET should be a couple tenths faster than it is. (going off the sig time)

And the GTO sounds like it should be good for a solid 13.80 :)

I am not sure on the elevation but it was at Memphis. Any help finding that out would be great. Yeah I know I have a few tenths in the car the way it sits due to the fact that I am running so damn lean it is not funny and the knock module was bad. I was running 64 degrees of timing when I ran a 12.98 pass. I changed the knock module and changed the plugs and am going to be riching up a little. The timing is back around 36 now.

Memphis Motorsports Park is 540'.

If thats the correct track.

We are 780' here in KC.

You really need more track time (now that the car is running better) it sounds like.

Yea i couldn't agree more. Right now the track is closed for the winter but by the time I get to go I should have the cam, tb, ewp, and weight reduction looking for 12.00. Lets hope

wish my DA was better i would have hit 12s by now but more mods baby!

really like the Ls2 GTO not near as much as the G8 though, both are HEAVYWEIGHTS!
the last GTO race the guy searched my car for N2O and said,"there is NO way an N/A Lt1 w/bolt ons can run low 13s at our track" i just laughed and told him he just saw the taillights of one!

My Z 3540 w/me 285whp+bolt-ons
GTO is 3860+,+avg.driver 395+whp+ bolt-ons(Ls2)

My buddy has an LS1 GTO, and there nice...not really fast but they can be, they just don't have the power to push that weight unlike the LS2.

You should be able to take him with those mods. If he wants to race for some $$$... I'd be a little suspicious though.

A guy I know has a bad ass turbo 06 GTO. Its a gorgeous car. I think its in the 10's right now and was trapping 140 or something like that. Still full weight, and street legal too! Has a lot more potential in it...

I really like these cars and would own one if I could. I can't understand why they didn't get more popular. :(

Most tracks suggest you get a cage, but to have a cage, then to get a cage. Man thats confusing lol.

Just givin you shit.

lol FIXED! Is there anyone else who made the attempt at reading the NHRA rule book......That was a waste of time....LOL
I just ask people what needs to be done to the car that run close to the same time I want to run. Works

I love the GTO's... But they werent really that functionable. I've sat, rode in, and even drove a few.. And I didnt really like it. I'm 6-3, and I always hit my head getting into one. They weigh a lot, dont have a lot of room for rear passeners (which seemed like the crowd Pontiac was going after), and wasnt a good "family" car. You cant drive them in the winter, easily at least.. The only reason why they did so good was because of the powertrain. Also, the name GTO also didnt represent the car well, because nothing really about it reminded anyone of the old GTO's, except for the power. It was just kinda a name given to it.

If they would have made it more like the G8 Gt... Then it NEVER would have gone under. Its the perfect sporty family car. Powerful, spacious, great on gas (DOD is awesome.. New Era even has a DOD cam out for it), and handles and drives very well, even in the snow!

I can see why the GTO's went under, but if they hadnt of, I dont think the G8 GT would be out right now.
