View Full Version : Hose routing water pump help?

Putting a car together for a customer with unknown components and found a weird water pump. It is missing the tube that goes to lower port on the radiator on the driver side? Here's a pic.

I was putting the hoses on and noticed the difference from mine to this one.

Any ideas where this water pump came from? How do I route the coolant hoses now? Can I plug off the driver side radiator port?

Its just the oil cooler line, if you block the lower rad port its fine. That is how my car is setup.

OP

can't see the whole WP in your pic but it appears to be a B or Y body LT1 WP, not F body

BTW, the lower DS bolt for WP gets thread sealer....it goes into a water jacket

Thank you. I stumbled upon this yesterday. Looks like I have a bbody water pump.

What hoses are not needed on a track car? Any idea?

Good point. I didn't put the pump on. I bet they overlooked thread sealer.

I need to figure out what all I can plug up hose wise.

if a B-body WP you can loop the 2 smaller hose pipes together as they are for heater. Not sure if you can "cap" them or if they need to circulate

the other two would be for upper/lower radiator hose

since you didn't put the pump on...can you see (from the top) that the coupler is on between WP & TC....it needs to be to make it work.

Yes. I checked it first thing. People not use to working around lt1s, I don't trust.

I will loop a hose to the water pump then and cap off the radiator ports not in use. I purchased new hoses this morning.

Thanks for your help good sir.

Mine are capped, no issues AFAIK.

I got a rubber cap kit from my local auto part store and used em with hose clamps.

That's gonna be my plan as well. Just wasn't sure what could be capped. I'm gonna work on it tonight. Wish me luck in the cobble job lol.
