so I found this car on my local craigslist and it appears to have an lt1 ss hood on it. car is being sold as a roller, and I offered the guy to trade my stock z28 hood with some cash on top for the ss hood. he seems to be okay with the trade and I am going up this weekend to look at it and just want know what to look for as far as markings or anything like that. he also said he wants $600 for the hood, which depending on the condition seems a little steep, but what do you guys think?

here is the add for the car, kinda sketchy add but he seems legit from talking back and forth on email

disregard the price, I think he meant that's what he'd take for the whole car. he just told me $200 on top of my hood so I think unless it has any major damage I will do it. if I had the room and the car was clean, I would scoop up the whole thing in a heartbeat

Should say made in Canada by the opening for the air intake under the hood. That's really all I can remember about them..

It says "Made in Canada" & has a "SMC #" some where underneath. I found the SMC # under the drivers side hood strut mounting location. Some people have also found it towards the rear of hood by the windshield.
If I remember I'll snap a pic when I get home.

It has the same info as the SS spoilers.

and to be honest, a real oem SS hood,, 600$ is a effing steal if it was. I am in the process of buying one and I am paying 1K for hood alone,, plus shipping. They are super rare so expect to pay for them**

I thought the smc# was under the hood strut mounting but I was wrong. Might be under the hood hinge. I could is swore I saw it there.

so I picked up the hood Saturday, didn't see any marking so I don't think it is OEM. drove 2 hours, swapped hoods in 10 minutes and drove 2 hours home. guy wanted $200 on top of my hood so I think it was well worth it even though I will have to have it re-sprayed because the paint isn't very good on it. I have write up in my build thread on it, stripes and hood pins have been removed

Pass me whatever you're smokin'!!!Well look around on the interweb and tell me how easy it is to find a 96-97 oem SS hood. But I guess you must think the people who have one should be willing to give them away smh. Look at ebay and you will see 98-02 oem SS hoods are selling for 600 to 1k and they are way more readily available. So in my case it comes down to personal preference,, there is no way in hell Im putting a fiberglass hood on my car**

Nobody's talking about your hood, i just wanted a hit of that stuff!! I couldn't care less what people want to sell them for lol, but IMO it's stupid to pay 1k for any hood let alone a heavy stock one. Different strokes/Different folks.**

Thanks man! I'm happy with it except for the hood pins which I didn't see in the pictures, luckily I think they will be pretty easy to fill in. I was also thinking about aero latches in the place of the pins, but they are located in a crappy place on the rad support so I will probably just fill them in.

I didn't realize oem had hood pins, but it looks good all the same.

I paid a member on this forum $850 for an SLP Ultra Z hood...to install behind the fiberglass nose on my red Z28. I feel torn between 2 viewpoints here...LOL.

OEM hoods didn't come with hood pins, someone installed those on this hood at some point. also, this isn't an OEM hood, it is aftermarket.

If you got the money and like the parts, more power to ya. I'm not the one earning it so it's not my call how to spend it. For me though I'd rather spend less and get a upgraded (lightweight, better cooling) piece. I want a fiber nose and hatch!

A OEM 96-97 SS hood just sold for 1500$ on ebay. The deal fell through for me so no hood as of yet. I would like to get ahold of a oem ss hood or a Ultra Z. Both are damn near impossible to find, and I don't like fiberglass hoods but I would do the Ultra*
