It's that time again. Time to start thinking about OCMD 2016. If you have never been there, you must experience it!

Cars from Florida... TX... Canada... Arizona attend this event.

Mrs Popo and I go down early... from the previous Sat or Sunday. It allows us, some US time, however cars/cruiser can be seen creeping earlier and earlier each year.

The actual even, with the convention center show and the inlet shows start on Friday.


Thurs May 19th
Friday May 20th
Saturday May 21st

But pretty much, Wednesday May 18th is when u start to see the town begin getting taken over by cruisers.


HEADS UP- After the awesome weather last year and the humongous turnout, some of the shenanigans have made the towns people... the OCMD PD and the local government a bit unhappy with the whole event. Im expecting to see a large police presence, and a big attempt at controlling the trouble makers... street racers... vehicle exhibitionists, etc. So be on ur bestsest behavior.

ALSO- for the past 13 or 14 years I always stay at the "HorsePower Hotel," on 73rd street (BeachMark motel), across from Big Peckers.

I know a friend of mine (with a mustang, from Cleveland) as well as ZGOBYBY have me locking them in for rooms, since its another friend of mine that pretty much organizes the Horsepower Hotel (we rent out the entire motel for our group).

If you are interested, let me know and I can see what is available. Locking in soon is a must though. We run out of rooms FAST.

I have stayed at a condo for the last two years, 2 blocks from "Horsepower Hotel." As much as I'd like to stay at a packed hotel with car guys, the parking there looks terrible. I know it'd get old if I had to keep fighting for a parking spot. popo8 I figured that's why you don't usually go out much Fri-Sat lol. That would cause me not to go out much.

The condo is on a quiet street with public parking that's always open. The condo also has 2 spots designated for it. I don't think we'll be going that route again, though.

If I do make the trip (making my Trans Am a priority this spring, not vacation), it'll be at Castaways. It's an RV/Campground with cottages 10min from the inlet. Quiet at night, dog friendly, private beach, and a tiki bar on the beach. I love cruising in town and then making my way back to a nice, quiet, multi-room cottage with my dogs and all the creature comforts. You can still hear WOT pulls and burnouts from across the bay haha.

I only go down Wed or Thurs to Sunday, but on the busier days it looks like people are double parked in some spots. I'm sure there's a good system to it all and people are courteous.

I used to stay on Baltimore Ave every year in whatever hotel was the cheapest. While it was nice being right on the boardwalk, the noise and people got old. One year we had a hotel balcony that was right on the boardwalk and facing the ocean. Some drunk kid wondered over for a cigarette while my friends were all hanging out and casually drinking. The kid got a cigarette and decided he was going in our hotel room. Needless to say, I launched him into the boardwalk and called the cops haha.

Never again after that haha.

When I used to abuse my TBSS down there, I'd easily go through 5-6 tanks of gas in a weekend. Now it's like a tank and a half in the Camaro. Just not as much fun to drive around as it was with the TBSS. The LT1 car should be fun if I ever finish the damn thing.

If you couldn't tell, I'm getting excited.

Oh its definitely full, however on the busy days the inner lot is cone'd off and only open to hot rods and people staying at the hotel. Parking also surrounds the entire buildings perimeter as well. Yes u are correct... we have a system and we all know each other.

I must admit... one thing i love about that vaca is waking in the am to the sound of a couple cammed cars firing up. Stepping out on the balcony and just looking around watching cars here and there. At night... we are usually up till the cruising dies... and every once in a while ull hear what sounds like a promod heatinf the tires... but for me, that is part of that vacas allure. Lol

Just booked a condo down by the inlet. Kids like to be close to the boardwalk. Not sure if I will be bringing the car this year. Traffic was insane last year. My clutch doesn't like all that stop and go. Last year on Friday night I unhooked the trailer from the truck, parked the car in front of the trailer and drove the truck around. This will be our 6th year and it has definitely grown with the amount of cars. I'm not complaining, just think I'm gonna be more of a spectator this year. I'm definitely in for the meet. I'll just be in a big black jacked up Duramax. LOL!

I really enjoyed cruising this past year. Did alot more than normal, although there were times where the clutch foot cramped up. Lol.

That is one of the best places to go if you love cars. My whole family has been going for as long as i can remember. We stay down by the inlet on 2nd street. Cant wait for this year because my car will be done. Have fun guys and stay safe.

They are trailers that are pretty nice and cozy on the inside with all the amenities of a hotel room. Most are 2 bedroom, nice size bathroom, kitchen, living room area with big screen, screened in porch, etc. Most people have big RV's and/or do the whole camping experience. I prefer the cottages.

I agree, it's about the same cost as a nice hotel (or cheaper). Peak season rates are obviously more costly.

I think my balance was about $560 and I put 275 down.

It's 10 minutes from the inlet across the 50 bridge. Right next to the outlets on 50. Parking is great and they have an overflow lot if you bring a trailer or have more people with extra cars. They don't charge extra for additional people, either. They have a car show of their own for the Fall cruise weekend. Cool little turnout and more and more people are staying there for the cruises.

I lived that life for years. Even last Spring haha since we stayed on 78th and my bed was like 8ft from the curb. You can still hear burnouts and cars going WOT across the bay at night from this place, which is pretty awesome.

I'm a driver at the cruise, though. Even when I stayed right on Coastal or Baltimore, I rarely watched the cars. I'd be down for car-gazing as part of the group meet, though. Although, it's just as much fun staring at each other's cars and stuffing our faces haha.

New trailer laws this year make it hard to find somewhere to park the trailer and the traffic in a stick that doesn't like stop and go. I will have another Impy friend that will be down there also, we hung out at Hooters in town Fri and Sat, his is very clean 30 k mile 96 survivor, all stock. Very nice.

You have to maintain a 15ft radius from this fuel pump lol.

The UCA bushings are shot and I had to steal some parts from it to get the Camaro rolling. Should be up and running again this summer.

Yea those were teaser pics, sorry, should of put a story to them...


So I have had an intermittent 'INFL REST" light on my 91 Z. Sometimes it stays on after start, sometimes it goes out. So last weekend it was on, no big deal, we are out cruising OCMD, where they are grading/paving coastal ave, hit a good size bump and boom, off goes the bag. I am in traffic, powder all over, sulfer, burns my right forearm as the bag comes out.

So I work my way thru traffic to a side street, horns blowing, cut the wires at the horns to shut them up, and luckily I had a Torx bit to get the bag out of the wheel. Car ran fine and we made it home no problems.

The third gen board say that with a solid light, the system has an issue and the bag should not have deployed!!

These old air bags make me nervous. Big reason I went with an aftermarket wheel on my 94. This isn't the first time I heard of an old air bag going off from a malfunction or something mediocre.

That's the cheapest route also, air bag off e-bay is like 50 bucks, pull the fuse, pull the light out of the dash, and just press. Maybe after I can get antique if possible go with a nice MOMO wheel or something. Rebuilding the entire system is almost pointless, replacing used parts (what I currently have) with more used parts, nothing new is available.

So I have had an intermittent 'INFL REST" light on my 91 Z. Sometimes it stays on after start, sometimes it goes out. So last weekend it was on, no big deal, we are out cruising OCMD, where they are grading/paving coastal ave, hit a good size bump and boom, off goes the bag. I am in traffic, powder all over, sulfer, burns my right forearm as the bag comes out.

So I work my way thru traffic to a side street, horns blowing, cut the wires at the horns to shut them up, and luckily I had a Torx bit to get the bag out of the wheel. Car ran fine and we made it home no problems.

The third gen board say that with a solid light, the system has an issue and the bag should not have deployed!!

Man, I'm speechless! I can't imagine an airbag going off while driving down the road. Lucky you weren't seriously hurt and no one else got hurt. This has got me thinking about disabling mine.

Yea it was like 735 on my things to do list, just before dying, lol. Yea totally caught me off guard, I was stunned and like WTF just happened all at the same time, things seem to go in slow motion, just kept cruising till I could get to a safe place to pull over. The screaming wife kept me alert for sure and the d$%n horns blowing, when it went off the heat from the backing plate melted the insulation on the horn wires and shorted them out, they kept blowing till I got stopped and cut the wires for them out at the horns. Then I could think of what was going on and deal with it. All in the middle of OCMD, and where we pulled over the 4th floor couple on the balcony got to watch a good show, lol.

These old air bags make me nervous. Big reason I went with an aftermarket wheel on my 94. This isn't the first time I heard of an old air bag going off from a malfunction or something mediocre. Ltconvert look at this thread. Wow glad ur ok man

Yea thanks, small burn on my left forearm where the bag hit it, they come out quite hot, and the backing plate was smoking hot after I got it out, but we are ok.

Not at all... they were great. Car loved em. .. esp the stall and shifting was really great.

Unfortunately we went back to the 3.08s because of some noise coming from the gears. Unsure the cause but it was more than just noisy gears.

I will be ordering a new set of gears soon as we get back from ocmd.
