I guess its kind of a dumb question, but no one has ever really taught me....i recently started doing my burnouts at the track in second gear, and it seems to get the tires rolling and smoking a lot better. does anyone do a third gear burnout?

Its really irrelevant because im on street tires, so i dont need to smoke them but for future reference since i cant find any information on it...

what gear do you guys heat your tires in?

2nd gear here. 3rd would be way overkill. You are doing it right but don't go all John Force with street tires.

And dont go thru the water with street tires. Ur burnout will still drag water out in the tread grooves and cause urself and other racers traction issues.

I get the tires spinning in 1st then shift to 2nd quick and let em eat. That's on Hoosier quick time pros. On street tires u only need to spin em over to clean em off. If u get em hot they will get real greasy

Thanks for the info guys. I do normally just spin them over a little to clean them off. Seems to be less violent doing it in second as well though.

As far as driving through the waterbox with the street tires. The main track I go to here, has no way to really get around it. So I usually stop directly in it and spin the tires a little until I'm out of it... I have noticed them having to mop up the water after street tire guys drive through it. So I was trying to keep from doing it myself.

Anyway, thanks for the advice guys! Good info here!!

Thats weird they dont give u an avenue around the box. I always go round the water... line my car up and give it a quick stomp to see if itll stick. If it doesnt . That stomp usually did the trick, but the cars ai race are not high hp cars... so 99% of the time i hook... dry.

I never get to go around water because the last place I went to, I always got the lane where it wasn't possible, so I just spin my tires in first for like a second because I'm the burnout champion and I don't want to show off. I even told the guys to not spray the ground when they see a black camaro come up :(

US131 is like that. The only thing I like about Stanton is being able to go around it. I always go around it and then back into the water, so that my front tires aren't dragging water up to the line where I'm trying to hook.

Thats soooo weird. Most tracks bitch when street tire cars go thru the box... im suprised they would not give u am option for all lanes.

On drag radials I stop in the box, do a small spin to evenly wet the tire and roll out a foot or two. I put the trans (4l80e) in second and bring RPM's up to about 5000 and wait till I feel the tires start to grip, then let off the brakes and spin forward a couple feet then let off the gas. It depends on track temp as too how long the burnout is but it's really not very long. If I burn them too long my 60ft drops.
