So I decided my winter project is gonna be the engine bay. I plan on dropping the motor out and clean up everything along with deleting some things and painting. Here is what I'm starting with.

Don't look like a bad starting point. I cleaned mine up over the years. It can get a bit obsessive the more you realize what can be moved, tucked, deleted, etc. Have fun and more pictures

Restart your phone. That's what I used to do.
Put long tube on, it gets rid of all the emission junk and makes it look a lot cleaner.
Make it shiny!

Ran into the first of many decisions I will be making during this project. I have a CD ignition that was installed by the previous owner (very poor installation job). I have never dealt with anything other than stock ignition parts, is this worth taking the time cleaning up the installation or just get rid of it completely?

I get around it by attaching my pic, preview post, then clicking "manage attachments" and delete it in there.
Keep up the good work, LT1's clean up really well.

Getting closer to dropping them motor. All that is left is the K member bolts, strut bolts, and brake lines. Any suggestions on dealing with the brake lines? (disconnect them from the calipers and leave them with the body, disconnect them from the ABS module and leave them with the K member) Either way looks like its gonna suck.

Not a whole lot has gotten done lately (work has been getting in the way). I did get most of the stuff I wanted deleted off and some things repainted. Hopefully start putting it back in next week.

I'm sure I will get different opinions on this but I'll ask anyway. My car has a 383 a mild cam and heads. It ran 325rwhp on the dyno last fall but was running out of fuel at high rpm so I am putting in a 255 fuel pump. Should I also increase the injector size or will stock be fine? If I can wait on injectors I would like to as I plan on doing more motor work next winter and am unsure what route I am going.

Well got the motor back in and now in the process of doing the wire and fuel line mod and hooking everything back up. Hopefully have it running in the next few days and then address the fuel pump and injectors.

The car is finally running. I learned a valuable lesson, make sure the header gaskets are sealed good before putting the motor back in. First time I've worked on headers in a F body, not fun. All that's left to do is the new fuel pump, put some of the plastics back on, clean it and drive it.

There is nothing better than coming home from work to see that UPS has dropped off a package.

I'm not sure if I am missing something simple here, does anyone know how to remove the electrical connector from the top of the fuel pump sending unit?
darkhelmet51
04-05-2016, 06:28 PM
Well I got the fuel pump in relatively easy. I have a question about electric cut outs. My car had one on it when I bought it and when I closed it the electric motor wouldn't close it all the way and gave me a bad exhaust leak. I bought a new cut out thinking the electric motor was just wore out and the new one does the same thing. The motor leaves it open a little bit. If I get under there and push the rest of the way it will stay on its own. Any thoughts.

Great job on the engine bay! Can you post a before and after side by side?
Can you post pictures of the holes to relocate the fuel lines and the wires to the pcm? How big did you make them and how? I want to do the same thing, but all the photos that are in the write ups will not appear. The how-to's and threads on the net are from 10 years ago or more. lol

This is where I drilled the hole for the wire harness on the passenger side. I believe it's a 1 3\4" hole I drilled with a hole saw. I'm sure there is a better place to drill this some of the wires were pretty tight getting back where they needed to go, but it worked and I didn't want to drill any more holes. For the fuel lines I can't get my phone in there good enough for a pic but I drilled a 1 3\8" hole next to the brake booster and fed the lines behind it and to the intake.

Very good looking engine compartment. Being a real nit-picker here... fine tune the MAF clamps by making sure all four match, and put the screws down toward the bottom, out of sight...... minor change, but effective:

I got all the tuning software and cable to tune my car. Lets see how this goes. I'm gonna start with simple stuff like turning off the emissions that I deleted to get rid of the SES light, depending how that goes I will get a little deeper into the tuning.
darkhelmet51
05-19-2016, 06:42 PM
Well my first attempt at tuning was successful, thanks to the info I got from this site. All I did this time was basic stuff like turning off the emissions I deleted this winter, adjust the fan temp turn ons for 160 Tstat, and adjusted the speedometer calibration. Now to do some logging and move deeper into tuning.

So it's very nice out today. Sunny and 80. I have the day off today and thought I would go for a ride. NOPE I have no clutch. The damn slave cylinder has been leaking and emptied the reservoir. None of the parts stores near me have one in stock but I will have one tomorrow. Very frustrating. One positive note, this is the first time I haven't been able to drive it due to something breaking.
Ya, if that's you biggest problem. You're not doing bad.

After waiting to long to put sub frame connectors on my car I finally got around to ordering them. After putting one side on I realized they sent me 2 for the driver side. While I'm waiting on replacements maybe someone can help me figure this out. On the driver side my fuel lines are in the way where the SFC bolts to the front. Any solutions other than re routing the fuel lines?

Bend out of way or don't run subframe connectors. What brand did u get? Anything that bolts to the rear lca isn't a subframe connector. I would only do weld ins, bolts and holes flex and move

I'm starting to think my car is never getting SFCs. The first set I got had 2 for the driver side, now the replacement order has 2 for the passenger side. At least this time they are sending me the replacements before I send the ones I have back. Hopefully between the 2 sets I will have what I need. Very frustrating.
Lol that's funny as hell!!!
I know it's not for you though. Good luck
