how to tell if it is a true ss

hey guys im looking to buy a 96 ss. how can i tell if its a true ss with the vin number? also. the car's owner says it has 80k original miles, but this one time i decided to buy an autocheck vehicle history report. it says the car has had a calculated twelve owners, and the last odometer reading was 168k miles in 2011, since that odometer reading the car has had a couple more owners. but no mileage was recorded. any way the autocheck report is wrong? or maybe the cluster has been changed out? thanks.

nevermind i just went to slp website and typed in the vin. weird vehicle history report remains. the person selling it says they bought it from a best friend, and when they bought it, they had papers showing mileage at 78k dated back in 2013. but like i said the odometer hasnt been registered since 2011, so i think somehwere in there between 2011 and 2013 the cluster has been switched out, oh well, even if the body had 200k miles, im still gettin a deal on this car.
