As many of you know, I bought Tubby's old 96 Impala SS.
She had been taken off of street duty after some top end issues.
Hoping that we can correct the issues, I have purchased a bunch of stuff that is being shipped directly to Tubby for re install.
Fingers crossed!

Is this 4k lb car going to be an auto x car? Haha. Seriously though, I think it'd be awesome with air ride. I would slam it, but not "stance" it.

I looked at the kit and ride techs kit. There looks like there is alot of difference. I would error on the side of caution. I would contact them and see what there return policy is if the kit dose not work the way you would like.
The progress that you have made in the transition from a roller to a complete car is going well. I'm enjoying see the progress. Best of luck with what you decide with the Ebay air ride.

I may make a few passes with it, so I have some slips for the binder... as well as to see how the car does.
It will be a fun family size cruiser. Looking at one of the smooth finish front bumper skins and maybe the rear spoiler replacements that are a lil more agressive.
Tint and a mild color change liquid vinyl job and finally need to lower it, but not sure if Ill do a static drop or air ride.

Well he's had air silinoid go bad , air pumps go bad , and leaking air lines . But the biggest issues he's had to send his front control arm's in to have the bushings replaced and he's had to replace the ball joints and steering component's .

That kinda happens with everything over time. Ride tech is good shit. Like really good. When you start using harder durometer bushings at different than designed angles there's more stress on components. Steering stuff in these cars sucks anyway and fails relatively quick even stock. Same with control arm stuff. You gotta remember, this frame design was from the 70's

His car only has 60k on it and the suspension probably has 5 to 10 on it . In my opinion it's just not worth it . But maybe he was just to rough on it i don't know for sure what the issue was . He doesn't autocross it , its pretty much a street strip nice day car.

You can build a rocket ship here and they won't care.
You will get ticketed though for not driving to a car show with historic plates if it makes sense. The police are nice here though, sometimes. That's the only reason why we wont put historic plates on the corvette.

Right... but my point is. With no inspection there... i would have no reason to register as a classic... because the Obd1 swap that most probably wont communicate with the emissions machine would be moot.

No need to keep driving "toy cars" all the time to feel the LT1 love :D
Looking good!
Keep it subtle......tasteful mods only....no big cowl hood or gaudy body parts! That's what these cars are all about....stealth!
The mods I like are the ones nobody suspects until you give your right foot a nudge ;)

Hopefully some people follow this thread and give me their opinion. But keep an open mind.
Many of you have seen my Trans Am. You know I did liquid vinyl florescent orange and i think it came out amazing. Its a matte color and I love it. The durability is incredible and when the day comes I can have it stripped and shot something else.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20151226/2aae8728051443b12b75667b5d5298bd.jpg
Now... keeping the positives that I mentioned in mind. This Christmas, I had my wifes winter beater done in matte "grape soda" liquid vinyl. Those familiar with the sports know that the lower half is a light grey color. I had that the side steps and wheels done to match...

Sooooooo... here we are at the impala.
What if i were to do the whole car in matte grape soda (they can gloss it also, but Im really digging the matte colors).
Keep an open mind and imagine black windows... smoked tail lights... smoked 1 piece headlights. Lowered and either making the wheels look even more machined (basically scuffing them duller) or black chrome wheels with a full matte grape soda liquid vinyl wrap.
And... fire away.

I think the whole car being matte grape soda would be a bit much. What about doing a 2 tone? What about matte black on top and matte grape soda on the bottom? Machined aluminum wheels and black out everything else?

Also, maybe mask in LTx on the rear fender within the break of the 2 tone?

Ok... so looking into some cosmetic pieces. Here is what Im lookin at to smooth out the imp.
First the side moldings will be removed... hope they are just stick on.
Then the smoothy front bumper. Not sure if i want with or without the fog light holes.

Leaning towards the one on the red/white demo car. Then maybe some small led strip lights for driving lights.
https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160109/72edb8925d59e3b6bc56348c42771a44.jpg
I love this slightly more aggressive rear spoiler.
And finally the smooth rear bumper here.

Moldings are stick-on with 3M tape. Take them off.
I don't like the look of the bumper with fog lights, it doesn't flow well with the rest of the car. One thing I like done on a B-body is a tailpipe tuck... the car has nice smooth curves and two tailpipes sticking out the back break that "flow". I tucked mine up a bit and cut the turndowns flush with the quarters so they don't show. You can see the tip a little here:

If it is valve train related, and considering I had valve train issues with that bottom end in the past, I'd start thinking about oiling issues to the top end like I have said before. That short block was full of sludge when I tore it down the first time.

Well, what we know so far...
Pulled the driver side valve cover... everything appears normal.
Noise is definitely coming from under the driver side head. Not sure how far below though.
On Tuesday we should have some time to pull the head and see what we have...
Theories... spun a bearing, or worn bearing, and it was just enough to have the piston make contact with a valve... if so... will determine damage and go from there.
Another theory... a valve got caught up in a guide and the piston made contact with a valve and bent it and thats what we are hearing. If thats the case... will repair head and put it back together (as long as there is no other damage).
Or... catastrophic/terminal failure... if thats the case... motor will come out and dissassembled and i will decide which of several options I will take...
Stay tuned.

94-96 Caprice and Impala tails are exactly the same, the difference is the color of the trim piece around it.
Caprice has chrome trim and SS has black trim.
The tails divided in 6 cubes is the early (91-92?) Caprice design.

No, but I did paint the chrome trim black on the Caprice tails.

Early Caprice tails with painted center trim and polished. I think these are available on 91-92 Caprice.

Ok... so we were mistaken. We had pulled the drivers side valve cover off because we were very sure that was where the noise was coming from. Everything appeared to be all good when the motor was run without that valve cover... so we brushed off a valve train issue being a cause for the noise (with the exception of a bent or stuck valve).
The plan was to pull the head today to see what was damaged and making that noise.
Well....
