rearend problem

I have a 95 z28 and i lifted it up the other day at work and seen that i can pull my axle out about a half inch and push it back in, the rear end works fine still with no noises, i took the diff cover off and both c clips are still in their spots and the rolling pin is still good as the bolt that holds it in is still good so what could cause my axles to have so much play when there not supposed to have any at all?

With the diff cover off, did you tug on the axle to see where the movement was coming from? Thats should have been the place to start.

And are you on any local boards? Noticed you were from Grain Valley.

im not sure of any local boards and ya when i had the cover off i pulled on the axles and when i pushed it in it would touch the rolling pin and when i pulled it out the c clip would stop it about a half inch of pulling it out so it has way to much play and im confused of what could cause that if all the gears are good and soild and the c clips are in there
