Just got some great news!!!

I just wanted to share becasue I am totally stoked!!!!



Recently, my Chief had retired because of family issues. Our most senior Officer is currently the Officer In Charge until a new chief could be hired.

However, I just received a call from my current OIC, who advised me that he just left a meeting with the TWP, and they offered me the OIC spot. Means Im the #2 guy (we dont have rank, just seniority, Chief and OIC).

I excitedly accepted!

What does this mean, other than a raise, which I really dont care about?

-Im the #2 guy
-Im the #1 guy, when our current OIC is away or unavailable.
-When we hire a new Chief, I am the #3 guy, unless the current OIC above me no longer wants to be an OIC, as he has already made announcement to retire in the near future, which at that point would make me the #1 guy, under the Chief.


I know it does not sound like much, however, in a PD with no rank, it means ALOT (although I am currently #2 in seniority out of our dept).

Ironically, when we do have media worthy stuff, I am the liaison, as non of the other Officers like to be in front of the camera.

No Chief spot for me till I finish my career in my current position. Need to have my full pension. 50 years old will be my date... then I can look for a chief spot.

Congrats man. I always wanted to Be a police officer when I was younger. Even applied and made it as far as the Polygraph and the Oral board. Started at 250 applicants and I made it to the final 47 or so(for 7 open positions) I always wanted to go back and reapply but got a job(much better than what I had) shortly after. Then had Kids and all that stuff.

Thank You man... I love my job... Nothing I would rather do. Even with the horrible ugly things I see, and deal with... I take pride in being the one to handle those things, for the victims sake and to keep others from having to deal with them.

When I graduated from the academy (I sent myself through), I applied with 26 different departments. I was offered positions by 16 of them... I took the first one that offered me a job, and pleged my loyalty to remain there and here I am, 14 years later.

Its never 2 late man...
