Hello Family!

Its been awhile since I've been active in the LTX community. Life has been busy, finally took the plunge and bought a house.


After finally building my dream garage (well almost done) I've started getting back into the swing of things with my TA. In the somewhat near future I'm looking to rebuild my engine and am looking at a rebuild kit:

Unfortunately I'm not so sure on the forged aluminum pistons. Is this pretty standard?

I don't plan on pushing a whole lot with my m112.

Good morning,

Gail aka American-Powerhouse can assist you with a SCAT package. Forged pistons are the way to go unless you're on a major budget.

Yes to forged aluminum.

4032 or 2618 forgings.

nateleduc, I would go with 4032 aluminum. The cost of forged over cast is not that much more and the strength is there in the future in case your plans change (we all want "a little more")! The difference between 4032 and 2618 is the silicon content, expansion rate, hardness and resistance to detonation. Unless you running a race engine with boost or NO2 you don't need a 2016 piston. 4032 is a harder, high silicon, low expansion material which allows for tighter piston to cylinder wall clearances. This means less noise or "piston slap" on cold startup since the material won't expand much as it heats up. 2618 is a softer, no silicon, high expansion material, which requires more piston to wall clearance to allow for the expansion with heat. The benefit to 2016 is its the ability to resist detonation which is more likely to occur in racing engines with power adders. Hope that makes since.
