View Full Version : Getting some new wheels need advice

Read through some other threads on this topic but I still need some advice. Ideally going with a square setup 18x10 or 18x11 on all 4. I wanted an Auto X and eventually road course ready wheel and tire setup just don't know if the 18x11 is possible. I'm prepared to roll fenders and use the BFH on fender wells so that's no issue. I will most likely be doing an LS spindle swap later on for a BBK. I can get an adj PHB and whatever else I need to make sure the susp geometry is correct.

Car is lowered quite a bit about 1.8 all around? So clearance may become an issue so that's why I'm posting here to see if anyone else has this type of setup. Also would like to know what kind of tire sizes would work. For 18x10s was thinking 275/40r18(unlikely), 275/35r18, 285/30r18, or 295/30r18 didn't see too many options with a 35 series for some reason. Probably going to run Toyo R888's. The only reason I mentioned 275's on a 18x10 is because the R888's run wide. And most other tires run narrow. if I get 11's I'll run 315/30r18's. Any help would be appreciated. Car doesn't see more than 4k street miles a year so I'm not too concerned with "R888's wear out too fast"

i am running 18x10.5s all around with 295/35 nt05's and my car is lowered quite a bit on coilovers and i dont have too much rubbing. fenders are kind of rolled in the rear, did a little BFH to the rear tubs and the fronts rub on the fender liner which is plastic and should clearence itself over time without damaging the wheels. i would suggest finding a 35 series tire for an 18in rim, a 30 series is a pretty thin sidewall.

I've ran 17x11s with 315 NT05s all the way around with only very little rubbing on my strano sway bar, with a 10mm spacer they fit fine. I've also ran 18x10x5 with 295s all the way around without issue (no spacers)

suspension is Strano springs, bilstien shocks, strano sway bar. no rolling of the fenders or BFHing.

I personally liked the 17x11s more but had to go with 18s when i did Brembos.

Did you run longer studs with a 10mm spacer? I run 1/4 inch spacers on my rear, and I did longer studs cause I didnt like how little the lugnuts held on to the stock studs.

Ok that's some good info. Setup then will most likely be 18x10 offset around +40 or 42 ish from what the rep was telling me for a true square set up that I can rotate without issue. I'll try and find some 285/35r18 tires just the toyos I wanted were only available in 285 and 295 as a 30 series maybe because the sidewall is so stiff it won't matter too much that it's a thin sidewall, on the other hand I could run 275/35r18 because from what I am reading these tires run wide. The 275 and 295 are under $275 a tire but for some reason the 285 is about $350 a tire lol so although 285 is ideal I think I'd go with the less expensive tires a tiny stretch won't hurt using the 275's especially since this car will be specc'd for more technical driving anyway. Car also has UMI front and rear sway bars (35mm and 22mm), so hopefully I won't have clearance issues since I know Formula218 mentioned little rubbing on his Strano bar but thinking about it I'll be fine though since his 18x10.5's fit fine without issue. Thanks to hokeplaya05 as well for the heads up. Both of your cars look so mean with the respective set ups man I can't wait!

Formula218 and hokeplaya05 so how do the specs sound for clearance. 18x10 +40 or +42 for the offset? Going for optimum clearance when I go BBK later on. Anything else to consider?

those specs should be good. i dont think you mentioned it but what wheel are you looking to go with?

Forgestar F14 most likely on a Gloss Black "piano black" as they call it in a deep concave. No one else knows but the LTx community. To everyone else I know personally it's a secret squirrel type of operation! But thank you for the feedback and advice. It's gonna be a pretty big purchase so I want to make sure I do it right the first time. The deep concave will look killer I think and spoke clearance should be good!
