MRS POPO called u haul for me today to get a price for a trailer for the shootout. Here is what she found;
Uhaul car trailer $274.75 for 5 days. . ...219.80 for 4days
Is that good?

Sounds about right. That's about what I paid to rent one to retrieve a car last summer for a 4 day haul.

Personally, U haul trailers are POS things on wheels.
You may be able to find a better trailer rental place with similar pricing. I know Hecht used to run a awesome tilt deck car trailer for less than Uhaul pricing and that you could actually use with a 4th gen.

I disagree. I've towed my car a half a dozen times with a uhaul trailer. There nice. Not the greatest. Not the worst. Only thing that I don't like is the braking system on them. Beyond that what makes them so bad?

Brakes suck, you can't open teh door of a 4th gen after loading, and they force you to load very tongue heavy.
Mostly I guess we get beat to hell trailers out here though, they all have been rather ragged.

Yes you can open a door of a 4th gen.
And agreed on the tongue weight.
The wheel well is on a metal pivot that Is held on my 2 bungees

I am not a fan of uhaul trailers. Most are beat to shit and tend to always have some issue. I was also not able to open my door at stock height either making it all the more miserable. My chassis mount torque arm bracket hits as well when loading. This prob isn't an issue on most other fbods as this piece does hang low admittedly.
To answer your question Popo, the price is reasonable. I would still look around for a better trailer as they may be the same price or possible a few bucks more.

When tubby delivered my 94 TA i coulda sworn the wheel covers on the trailer folded away from the car being trailered to open the door.
Maybe im mistaken.

They do fold open on the drivers side. Mine still would hit. Maybe my car just sits lower than most.

My car is quite lowered and clears everything good.
All my uhaul trailers are brand new . I guess it would suck to get an old beater

I thought about picking one up for the Fall cruise (taking my dogs with) and my friends told me to steer clear. Apparently anything over 55mph and they get a little dangerous. I would still like to try them out first hand.
May be better off buying a new one for $2k and calling it a day. I've been thinking about it very seriously lately. You can hide it under your deck ;)

You can def go past 55mph with it but, since you have no brakes, if they start to wag.. better hope your tow pig can pull it faster to straighten it back out.

Here's a good idea: You buy a $2k trailer and I'll rent it for the Fall cruise!
Man, I am FULL of great ideas today. Hahaha

I've towed many times with a u haul trailer, never had a problem with one. I had one that was basically brand new one time which was really nice. The one we delivered popo8 bird with was the worst shape one we had and it still wasn't too bad. Only thing with 4th gens I had a problem with was had to use some wood to get the bird nose up past the ramps when loading. Camaro weren't an issue. They are fuggin heavy though

I don't think I've ever loaded on a trailer that didn't require some wood extensions to the ramps.

Absolutely... We are going to the shootout. Have not missed one, other than last year (Our Wedding), since 2010.

Larry look into Penske. The few times I've needed to rent a trailer, Penske came in cheaper than UHaul and their trailers all have the fold down fender on the drivers side, and my old black 93 never had an issue using Penske trailers.
