While the motor is out of the car I have been slowly working on some low cost projects, and restoring the engine bay. I was looking at the car today and realized how much i hate the black plastic in the "nostrils" of the formula bumper. I thought about foglights, or some kind of insert that looks better and lets air flow into the engine bay, or maybe a functional break cooler(not that I really need it, but it would be kinda cool). What ideas does everyone has?

I was planning on cutting them out and putting my intake over the radiator. But that will come when the motor comes out and I'm repainting the car and engine bay.

I've thought about cutting them out and routing them into the bottom of my air lid. i figure there is probably stuff behind it that would need to be moved too.

I need to double check how much clearance I would have with the radiator in, or I could cut into the bumper a bit and do it. Is there anything I should do to prevent water from getting to the filter(like i know on the factor intake it had the tube thing that dropped down). I would be super pissed if water screwed up my second rebuild haha.

there doesnt seem to be much behind the openings and the foam, which I don't feel comfortable removing since I still street it. I was also thinking about building a sealed box for the filter to reduce heat from the engine. Once I remove some more stuff Im going to see if I can rig up a template out of cardboard and go from there. I figure I can run it along the bottom of the car and up to the bottom of the filter. Granted I am not an expert with this kind of thing, but it should get sufficient air to it

it would be awesome if I can find someone to build a few if the install isnt crazy hard and sell a few if it works

There's the steel bumper bar back there, that sucks to cut thru

there is about 3 in between the opening and the metal bumper. I figure if I leave about a half inch that should be decent flow/ clearance

U honestly get more flow thru the bottom unless u have a reason to cut the front. I saw no increases cutting out my z28 bumper and steel bumper in coolant temp and iat temp with a over the rad intake as compared to just over the rad sucking in front of radiator. If you had an intercooler, or literally ducted it to the intake, then I can see it helping

Thats the plan, I am going to combine both into a duct to the intake
