Does anyone know how much I will gain with a set of ported lt4 heads over as cast trickflow 195cc.
Thanks

Who is doing the porting?

Me. I am following through the head bytes porting videos on youtube. My motor is a 396 with flat top pistons. Trick flows are 64cc chambers.

Honestly, no one can say because you aren't a porter. No offense but it's better left to people who know what they are doing, you can do more damage and hurt flow more than good, and that head bytes guy I have heard a bunch of crap about.

Ok so back to my question. How much more would a ported lt4 head out perform a trickflow. Not hack job porting. Matched gaskets opened factory pinch points cleaned up casting marks and combustion chamber.

As cast 195cc Trickflows don't exactly set the world on fire. A standard set of LE1's which is his basic port job crush 195cc Trickflows. The Trickflows move around 250-255cfm's iirc. A stock LT1 head moves about 210cfm, LT4's are about 240cfm. The flow doesn't tell everything, but it can give you a rough idea of the power potential you can expect out of them. A general rule of thumb is to take the max cfm you can get out of a head and double it, to get an approximate max hp potential assuming it's built decent. I wouldn't home port a set of LT4's since they are somewhat rare. I'd let a pro do it. I'd certainly try it on a set of LT1 heads though. They can be found anywhere.

I wouldn't mess with the LT4's, as said they are rare. It would suck to mess them up.

Stock LT4 heads and out of the box Trick Flow 195's would probably be about a wash and maybe 10 hp or so in favor of the LT4's since they ahve the smaller chambers.
Porting the LT4's could get you another 50-60 HP if changing seats and installing 2.08/1.60 valves and knowing what you are doing on portjob and ending up with a 220 cc intake port. As you go down to 2.02/1.60 valves, stock 2.00/1.55 valves, lesser portwork, etc, etc you could see anywhere from 40 HP gains, 20 HP gains, ZERO gains or actually lose some power. It all depends on how much you understand portwork and your ability to do what you want done to the heads.
Once you start porting the Trick Flows you can make even more power.
Just make sure that you get the right piston for your stroker to get you the compression that you want (with what ever chamber you end up with) to work on pump gas with the size cam that you need.

email me @ nighttrain66@msn.com.
That is much easier for me since I do emails a cpl of times a day and sometimes can go a cpl of days with out making it back to this site.
For a general price it is $700 for portwork, valve job, mill, clean and assembling the heads.
Anything $$$ on top of that would be if upgrading or changing valve size and buying whatever brand/part # of spring/retainer set up you wanted to go with ($350-800).
