So, I called the chief as requested, and he advised me that he is going on vacation. Literally at the airport and about to head to his FL home for the week.

What he says to me next floored me. "Would you mind covering for me while Im away?" WHATTTTT?!?!?!?! HELL YEAH!

POPO is the man in charge of the PF this week!

For those that dont know... the PD i work for is a small pd. 7 full time guys and a chief.

We have no rank... most things are assigned by seniority and specialized training...

I am second in seniority with mearly 14 years under my belt... the officer above me is at about 26 years and I was chosen over him... and over the older guys with more experience from other departments that are below me in seniority.

So today, I was told that a certain back stabbing co worker has a nick name for me... it was "SECRET SERGENT" since he believes I'm "in bed" with the Chief, whom he does not get along with (by his own doing). Now that I am OIC for the week he has been referring to me as "SECRET OIC." What a spineless puss! I cant help it that at 38 years old, I had the epiphany to realize that unless its illegal or immoral, to go with the flow and enjoy the career that I love. I cant help his dumb ass, in his 50s, still has not figured that out, and he somehow thinks that making stuff up and bucking the "system" is gonna make for a better day at work.

I learned early on, the better you get along with your boss/managers, the better your life will be. It's helped me a lot so far in my career. The ones that called me an ass kisser early on are still stuck in their miserable jobs while I have moved up and moved on.
Its true... and Im by no means a brown noser. It just took me a while to realize that bucking heads makes for a misreable time at work. Unless its illegal or immoral, i do as im told. Like him or not... those GOLD eagles means he is my boss. Its just respect.

Exactly, just get along and don't start trouble. At the end of the day, your job is to do what your boss tells you to, even if it doesn't exactly fit your "job description". Like one time when I was a lab tech, I had to wash dishes from the manager and her bosses' drunken party the night before. I wasn't happy about it, but I didn't complain. A couple years after I had left that company, they called me back with a job offer and a 50% pay increase from where I was.

A few weeks ago many may remember my enthusiasm and pride in being asked to be the OIC in the Chiefs place while he was away. I made a post on facebook and in that post I mentioned that i couldn't help it that i was chosen over another based on what i believed was me learning that bucking the system was not the way to live life as others did. Well one of my, at the time trusted "friends" decided to share it with that individual (who is BLOCKED from my page) who in turn passed the info on to be filed as a complaint against me. I was told that i shouldn't have posted that (even tho it was not specific) as it showed inter departmental conflict, or something like that. I later posted that i had discovered the names the individual was calling me "secret sergeant and secret oic as if to say i was doing something brown noseish or something. Well my bad for being excited and proud to share something that I thought was worthy on MY FB PAGE. Its all so damn childish... so unfortunate...

Well in my twisted mind you posting stuff about being in charge, would entail your CO isn't there etc, people can use any sort of info these days for shit.

Well the reason I was quick to say NO earlier, is we have no policy against it. We do have policy against badmouthing officers outside of the department, however I believe I walked the line, by not mentioning any specifics...

I know what your saying, Im just trying to explain it the best I can.
