i decided to just take the upper and lower portions of the front seats and have the covers put on by the upholstery place. they cut me a pretty good deal. for $200 they are going to remove the 4 plastic pieces on the old seat covers and put them on the new ones and also install the upper and lower covers on both as well as hogringing down the new drivers side back cushion and adding a foam insert to the bottom of the seat where the lower part has sunk in a bit due to age.
he said it should take a week to ten days to do. i told him to take his time because i'm not driving the car right now anyway.
when i got home i decided to tackle the headrests and one of the back seats.
the headrest clips that were attatched to the new upholstery were too big and i had to use those plastic sheers to cut them down on the top and bottom of the headrest so they would fit and so the 2 screw holes on each headrest were not blocked.
then i did the back seat which was not too bad although the middle of the seat is kind of wanting to rise up even though i put some velcro down there. i have a few books in a bag sitting on top of it hoping to help form the upholstery to the seat so it won't keep rising up. the new upholstery is a hair lighter than the old upholstery but it doesn't look too far off. one of the pics below shows the new upholstery on a rear seat cushion on the left side with the old seat cushion and foam on the right.

and finally here's a pic of the upper rear seat upholstery which i can't install yet because i still cannot get that damn bolt out of the seat frame. i bought a pair of needle nose vice grips and they aren't gripping enough to turn it they just want to peel off paint from the screw. argh

i sure will.
i'm glad i only have to hogring that other seat and probably the upper back seat (the original one had clips on it but they apparantly sent hogrings for the new one and no clips). i had to redo one or 2 hogrings on that seat bottom and i think there is still one on there that isn't really attatched to the foam so i just put another one next to it and then left the other one in there. no one will ever see it, lol
i wish the headrests sat a little tighter but supposedly when the weather is warmer they will shrink a little bit. I'm still unsure what i'm gonna do about that damn bolt on the side of the back seat. i don't care about breaking the handle or the bolt at this point, as long as the threads inside the nut are ok (its a square shaped nut thats welded into the side of the seat frame) i have a used handle coming tomorrow or friday

i got the other seat done today and also got the old upholstery completely off the back seat top (had to cut it off) but it does look like a dremel tool might be the way to get to get that handle off. with the cloth out of the way it looks like there is enough room between the washer and the seat frame where the screw could be cut and then removed

well i took a bit of a gamble (not really since the upholstery wasn't too difficult to install) and put the back seat upholstery on the seat. i used both sides of the velcro this time for the middle parts of the seat because they wouldnt stay sucked in on their own. I only put 3 hogrings in the middle of the seat for now so that it would stay in place. once i get the other handle i'm going to cut the holes in the faboric and install those first to make sure that bolt doesn't snap off again. once that is done then i will hogring the rest of the bottom of the seat (it looks a little weird in some places at the bottom because its not hogringed down.
I really wish they would have used J clips for this part instead of the hogrings. the factory used J clips and for whatever reason that was the only difference in attatchment style between the oem upholstery and the kit.
I just figured out also that if i undo the velcro i can reach that little bolt with my fingers so i can probably hold some extra pressure on there while tightening the nut down so the jb weld doesn't break. i'm pretty sure once the bolt is tight it doesnt matter whether the jb weld is there or not as the nut can't go through the hole in the frame which is the only way it could go if its tight on the bolt.

I got the front seats back today and i'm beginning to regret reupholstering my seats unfortunately.
they also did not cut out any of the holes for the bolts and left 2 bolts tightened under the leather that i have to go get out of there by way of taking part of the lower cover off and removing the bolts.
for whatever reason i think the rear seats ive done myself look better than the fronts do. or at least i am able to get the rears back together.
i spent $250 and now have front seats i may not be able to use. none of the holes line up for the screws on the sides and on the drivers seat i can't even get the side panels close enough to even attempt to put them together. the passenger seat leg adjuster piece is very loose and the upholstery guy suggested i cut off the clips and glue it instead which i'm not thrilled about. but that is the least of my problems because i can't even get the seats back together the way they are now to even worry about that.
so far i've spent over $650 on the leather kit and the labor for what was done today. argh.
anyway here's a few pics.

well i got the lower portions put together and found something kind of nasty on the outer drivers upper cushion. it almost looks like a burn mark of some sort. And i still can't get it to even come close to where it needs to be to attach the rear plastic thing with the netting on it or the outer rear cover
