Hey guys!
I was planning on putting some hours in the garage this week, and I would like to know if it's true that you can remove the white stick inside the shifter lever simply by yanking it straight upp in one simple motion? A third gen guy told me that but I haven't had the chance to try it yet. What do you guys think?
This would be great if it's true, because I'm about to shorten my gear stick and do some vertical cuts down the lever since I'm about to change the fugly original shifter to a Hurst Pistol Grip, and the white stick is very much in the way!
Any thougts or pointers?
Regards.

But the white stick is what allows u to unlock the stock set up from the locked out selections.
This one, right?

Yep, that's the one! And as you see it has to go in order for me to cut the vertical cuts in the lever with the hawksaw, otherwise the white stick will be in the way! :/
And as soon as I'm done with the vertical cuts on the shifter lever - I will put the white stick back where it's supposed to be again! :-)
Oh and btw, since I know how much you guys appreciate pics on this forum, here's one I took yesterday when I finally got my new (new for me, bought them from a colleague) rims on. 19" with 285's in the back! ;-)

I'm not sure what kind of rims those are, but my money is on some sort of Antera's - possibly the 349's.

Yep, purely aesthetic. As it sits now, the knob is WAY to high, it almost touches my stereo! You know, the way I see it - all I have to do is remove the white stick and when it's out of the way I can easily cut down the lever and at the same time cut the vertical grooves. After that is done I just have to put the white stick back, put the MBA-adapter on and I'm d-o-n-e. :-)

Sounds like a plan. Document it with pics for us.

Yes I will do that, as soon as I find a way to remove the white stick! ;-) If I don't find a way, I will use a Dremel with a saw-blade and cut the grooves carefully without touching the white.
Anyway, I'll let you know when it's done. My car is still hibernating in the garage waiting for the first day of may, then the asphalt will be free from snow.
First thing I'm gonna do is let my 285's get rid of their winter fur, hehe! ;-)
It's gonna be an expensive summer.. :-$

There is a thread out there where a guy cut the black shafts with a small pipe cutter and just snipped the white piece to fit it....I am trying to find it...

Thank you for taking the time and finding the link! From the looks of it I'm not sure if you can get it out in one piece.. damn, this will make the whole job a lot more complicated. My other idea is to simply cut the lever off and when I'm done with cutting the grooves I'll simply re-weld it back in place again.
Is there maybe anyone here who has a picture of the white stick separated from the lever? Then it would be really easy to see what to do with it!

so you want it to be like a old dodge?
i'm just busting your balls if that's what you want do it.
i kinda like the HURST T handle.on a auto car i would just keep it stock.

If you don't shorten it....it's this high...which is why I went another directionhttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/25/89add03de7b3cdc55346bf391bddc3de.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/25/32126b05c484a52ca8845e467c482d25.jpg

If I knew then what I know now, I would most likely also have ordered the T-handle. Problem is that the Pistol Grip looks so mean and really gives it that muscle car feel + that it looks awesome when it's installed the way it should be. As soon as I get it done right I will post pics for you to envy! ;-)
The reason I'm not using the original knob is because it looks kind of cheap, I guess the philosophy behind it was all function and zero form.

The red knob looks really good, but since I've already invested over 50$ for the Pistol Grip (shipping and adapter not included in the price) - I might as well see it through! ^^

Hmm.. maybe I should see if someone wants to buy mine if I run out of ideas.. the T-handle might be the way to go if I don't solve this problem in the near future. But I'm not sure yet, I'm going to the garage tomorrow to see where I'm at in the process! Anyhow, my car won't see the streets until the beginning of may, so there is still time to aquire a Dremel and go nuts on it! ^^
