Mine is different. My car is a 97, that's when they got the new interior. It's not that big of a deal, just thought it was funny because I was having such luck.

Went to one of those self washes last night before a car meet. Never used one before and now I will. Didn't even scrub the car and it came out clean!

Dan

Alrighty

The car is being parked soon, snow is coming.

This summer/fall has been the best time of my life. Not only did I get my car finally running, but I met even more people at school. I joined a car club and it's been the best thing to happen to me. I've had a lot of shit happen these past two years with my family and finding another family at school helped a ton.

Having this car be on the back burner for so long really demoralized me. I was about ready to list it.

I'm so happy I didn't. I've never had so much fun in this car. I've met so many new friends due to me being so happy the car is running.

I want to thank you all for being a part of my heads and cam swap that took too long. Tonight is likely the first and last time I'll cruise Woodward this year. I haven't even been to Woodward since the cars been out because of school and just not wanting to do it.

But alas I thank you all for your time and help.

I went down to Woodward last night because the weather was great. Was my first time down this year. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20161119/ec4ca14d579d8d390f318619763fe748.jpg

Mounted the wing last week and it fits good. For 100 bucks I can't even complain. I recommend it highly. There's a slight gap on the driver side but it's not that bad. Also changed the blue lights out and went white.

Also, earlier I started installing my LCAs and relocation brackets and I'm having a fun time. I did dumb things and I don't want to talk about my dumb things I did.

Phase 2, which i had to do on my bird, was get a ratchet strap, wrap one end around rear, other end hooked to crossmember, pull as tight as possible by hand, then tighten with ratchet thingy, and voila

I used a BF dead blow hammer and gave it a hand full of love taps, mine didn't line up well either but you can muscle it in there. No biggie, you're doing fine!

Also don't tighten anything up until they're all in, every little bit of wiggle helps.

Also when you put in LE heads what method did you use to adjust lash?

Just curious. I may end up doing this soon.

Both headgaskets were blown.
Pushrods were fine, non bent.

I set last the traditional sbc way. Wiggled it up and down and tightened nut until there was no movement then 1/2 turn.

From what I'm being told, the sound meter is at the long stretch where the people outside the track complain the most.

Perfect, so just have to come up with a temporary way to point your exhaust out the opposite side, and maybe point it upwards a little if you can since the meter is most likely on the ground and you won't want it bouncing off the ground towards it. If it's on the Passenger side it should be pretty easy for your setup, if not you'd just have to flip the 90* after the axle.

All for the low low price of $500.

3" duals are even larger than a single 4". Dual 2.5" or single 3.5" would be better for H/C with headroom for more power down the road. Otherwise, just keep it 3" with a high flowing muffler or cutout pointed where you need it. It's fine for a H/C car.

Coil power wire. I gotta move it to the back. Before I took photo.

Worked good. The back coil on the driver side is close to where the fuel quick connects are. But it works good. Probably may benefit from a slightly higher spacer but space is limited

Only have to make one or two new wires. Can't complain there!

Yeah I was afraid to make the spacers much higher because of the cowl. I'm spoiled to a g-body engine bay, the fbody engine bay struggle is real!

It's almost done. I have to pull a wire through further. That's the best I could do with the harness. I need to remove it if it's going to get better. I'm doing the wire tuck in the coming weeks. It's rainy all week now. Yesterday was my best day to pull the car out.

Car meet today. Pouring rain. Car started hesitating and afr wasn't reading. Pulled over, air filter soaked in water. Get it all dried off and the car was running 'ok'. Not great, but 'ok'. Stopped and got gas, figured I may have bad gas. Car was still running lean and having a rough time idling. Proceeded with caution and all issues cleared up for the most part.

I guess I'm not driving in the rain anymore until I can stop the filter from getting wet... Replacing the filter and getting new o2s. O2 sensors are Bosch from awhile ago.

Well, I went to drive the car to school Monday. Started it up, and went to head out. Started hearing a clicking/tapping sound. I turned around and went back home and popped the hood. Sounded top end so I have started with the simple things..
Doing header gaskets and boy has it been anything but simple. To start, one bolt on the passenger side was missing. It was the far outer one in back. Since it wasn't there, as soon as I removed the other inner bolts, the header dropped. I had a fun time getting the bolt started and finally got it.
Now I'm missing two bolts [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35] [emoji35]

So tomorrow I'll pull valve covers and pray it's a loose rocker
I haven't touched them since I installed them and I've put 2000 miles on the car sooo.. Good thing I picked up another day at O'Reilly and applied for internships

it was most likely your header gasket leaking. I know when Ltconvert header blew the gasket out we thought a rocker snapped.

Yeah 99.999% of the time its the gasket aqnd will sound like valve train loose or or broken. what i di is grab a large screwdrive and place the handle in the ear and the other end to the valve cover. works just like a stethoscope helps to pinpoint the noise. if you dont hear it louder then probly the gasket but its the gasket cause you said you lost some bolts. K

Dan
04-12-2017, 02:33 PM
So the noise is for sure coming from the injectors. Did the ol fashion screwdriver to ear thingymajig. Plus a coil was loose and banging around..

Yeah but didnt you say your headet was loose. You can burn a hole in the gasket. What I do is put a piece of paper on a stick and move it around the flange to see if any exhaust is leaking.

Dan how you liking that black widow exhaust? I've heard some that I hate, they sound like they're chokemasters on the lines of the super 10's just raspy little crap cans. I like it. Compared to a dynomax bullet it seems better. With the 90* elbow I have on it, it restricts it and causes it to make weird noises lol. Hard to explain what it does. I wouldn't hesitate to get another, but I wouldn't get their venom mufflers. Just this bullet style.

Car is running leaner and leaner at WOT. I think it's time for 255 upgrade. I'm having drivability issues with it. It's to the point where the power is delayed and when it's doing that, it's reading lean. I'm going to hook the scanner up tomorrow and see what the O2s are doing too. I'm just guessing with it. Like I said, the side windows are darker. I plan to have the car retinted in the coming weeks. Just need to stop having fun driving it and peel the dam things. Any advice on peeling the hatch one?

Also, something comes in the mail Wednesday and I'm really excited for it [emoji41]

Yeah... when i workrd at the custom shop many moons ago... back windows were a pain. Exause u didnt want to damage the defrosters... does ur rear defroster work?

Once I know that, Then I can tell u how to best attack it.

Well peeling is it will not be the hard part... hard part is getting the glue off. Depending on the quality of the film... if its cheap shit it will leave minimal glue.

Now get urself a bottle of laquer thinner and a clean rag and soak the rag... keep wiping over the glue till it gets gooey.

Once its gooey... a fresh razor blade and "mow the lawn." Just make pass after pass and it will come right off.

Two doubles.

Speed engineering true duals. We had to make slight changes to it. My y pipe was welded to collectors before so we had to lengthen some pipe, and since they angle out, we had to bend them a hair.

I'm starting the process of going tan interior. I got these pieces out of the junkyard for a nice price so I figured it was worth it. My old ones were gray and all scratched up and looked like shit.
My goal is to get nice tan leather door panels and probably tan seats.

It's different!

Also it's been a week since the exhaust went on. Speed bumps are a no go. It has scrapped one time and that was in a parking garage. I think it was the clamp that hit.
I need to do a tightening session soon for the clamps. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170624/d95a2f63b96fe0c040086c1b049c28f3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170624/89721c5b7505492ffc064d4dd6bd4a73.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170624/a6899bfd993de6f033dba4574457fee6.jpg

One of my fog lights decided to fill with water. So instead of buying a used one that will probably leak, I went hunting on ebay for a replacement.

Here is the link to them. http://www.ebay.com/itm/201261109542

Basically, all I did was use two hex cap m6x1.0-30 and two 3/4 inch spacers to bolt the lights to the stock fog light brackets. Then, wired them on to start harness.

They fit my new style headlights quite well and the output on them is way better than stock. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170725/fb3eb2d4f086fc7278c30effdf694051.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170725/6f23ed6076e7741cb75d050d98f5cd6b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170725/b7883d96b8c7bb041d51e207bfc157bb.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170725/d39f2d64f6e72f356df9d8851a1fef21.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170725/9a2b012f87a687d17a135780af5d0a68.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170725/cf8d6007e750541f910a836304737bae.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170725/1b5b294e3a5f29487a8560ed87ebb214.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170725/a464c91b43087b0d7c9870608544208a.jpg

I'd consider myself lowered quite a bit and the only thing that scrapes is the collector or the rear section just before it goes over the rear end and typically only on severe dips on the highway. But of course I'm on a custom TD set up so it doesn't do much for those interested in the SE kit. More so commenting on lowered car with TD's for reference. Made up from a uni x pipe kit and magnaflow merge up and over out through CME.

If you didn't see my other thread on my first road racing event, I'll just give a quick run down.
Went to my local road track and had a blast.

I decided it was time to replace the old pioneer head unit with something more 2017. Ended up getting this BOSS double din setup through Crutchfield for $167.. I don't believe I can. I have to play around with it more though. Even if I can't I'm happy with it. It's blue atleast which is the color theme with this car.

It rained really hard today. So hard that water was coming into the car. This picture was about an hour and a half after it finally dropped raining. The road that I work on was completely flooded. I think water pushed passed the seals mainly because it just rained so hard. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170804/96d0f9c6a62f52e0173d070979fc0639.jpg

So some things have happened the past week or so.
Replaced driver side window motor and now it goes up and down fast.
Fixed driver side door panel so now I don't have to open the door to roll up or down the windows.
I'm in the process of removing my old tint which is going way worse than expected. Need to get it all off by Friday because you can barely see out the back because the film separated...

I raised the exhaust. I didn't get any before shots, but it was maybe 2 inches off the ground and had way too much play. I ended up lifting it up and using an exhaust strap and redneck engineered it on.
Found a big ass dent too but eh whatever.
New clamps on the back half so now it's rock solid. Exhaust literally doesn't move now.

Diff is leaking more now so I have to address that someday.

Woodward dream cruise is this weekend, and I have another track day Friday. I'll be getting way more footage this time around.

Lastly I'm deciding on new wheels for the track. The current wheels are for daily purposes and are really not good for road racing and autocross. So 18x10.5 wheels will be ordered soon. Trying to choose between c7 Z06 and deep dish c5 wheels.

I've had a lot of fun this year. I've driven the car roughly 4000 miles this year. Are you upgrading your brakes to something too big for 17s? The only thing I dislike about my V brakes is having to sell my 17x11s. If not you should look at some 17s for the track tires. C4 zr1 wheels can be had in 17x11 for relatively cheap and fit some meat under the car. I ran 315/35/17s without rubbing front and back and the car handled amazing, even with only NT05s on them. With 18s you're adding more weight and will most likely be paying more for tires too.

If you haven't already, check out landstuhltaylor's build on MI-Fbody. He's been racing his camaro at a ton of auto-x and could probably give you some good pointers on what works good and what isn't worth your time.

Dan
08-15-2017, 10:47 AM
I've thought about doing c4 Zr1 wheels. Didn't know the 11 inch wheels fit the front.. They would definition be better with cheaper tires and whatnot.
I've thought about doing bigger brakes but I think the c5 brakes are more than adequate.
And yeah I've seen his whole thread. Met him once too, he's a pretty cool dude.

I'll check muh options and see if I can find a halfway decent set of Zr1 wheels.

Did you have to massage anything in front to make 315s fit?

More than I have driven it before lol. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170815/30d8305ff775d7634676628f3bd2408b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170815/5efb402a6ddbbc4b79e8c1edd376a142.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170815/b01ec2204552e77defe854892348309d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170815/ff01e97c0a9acf9b7d28f2418ad3a9c9.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170815/e8c4e28ddcadf938d72e665d66bc12b2.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170815/5440f54ead6429d2170abdc836498fe7.jpg

once you really start pushing, you will eventually spread the front corvette calipers as well.

also tint, wet the window, mat a black garbage bag to it, then let it almost dry, then pull slow from the corner. it will stick to the bag and come right off

Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

I did not have to hammer anything, but I did have a 10mm spacer to stop the tire from hitting my Strano sway bar. The C5 setup is great, and you can still run 17s with it. You will start eating up wheel bearings, but they're easy to swap lol.

wait a few months and Sam strano is coming out with an adapter that allows you to run SKF C5 HD hubs which are much cheaper, retain abs, etc

But isnt that stress on the hub cause of the camber.

... on my tablet using Taptalkno, the camber doesn't directly put more stress on the hub, the high loads associated with the tires not sliding when they are sticky puts more stress on it, along with heat, etc.

if you're running -1° camber, when you turn right the left tire will go to 0°, not negative, thus all the tire is on the ground, thus increasing traction, but inducing more stress on the hub. these hubs weren't designed for those loads

Allllrriiight

Went back to waterford again today. Had even more fun. There were a lot of decent track cars there today so I got passed a lot lol. Those focus rs are pretty damn fast around this handling track.

Got a lot of help from other racers.. Giving me tips on how to hit apexes better. I was told by most that I need tires and frankly I agree.

There was a group of 5th gen guys there and they came over to me and chatted with me. Older guys, it was real great. Road racing people are nicer lol.

My current tires are all seasons and I think it's time I get at least summer tires for Woodward and road race activities.

I'm fairly certain I want to go with 18inch c7 Z06 wheels from oewheels. I know I'll be adding more weight, but I'm not trying to win championships here [emoji23]. I want to have MORE fun!
Right now, I think any "performance summer tire" will be better then what I currently have.

The track pics are my fastest laps of the day. Slow car though hah

Here's one video.. I got two more coming

Things have happened in life.

Bought a truck. V6, 4x4.. The 5.3 wasn't worth the extra money for little towing increase. Brother and I are paying on it.. 36k for it..

Decided I need a vacation.. This spring I am going on a road trip. I plan to go at a time where I can hit as many road courses as possible. Staying in the east.. There are quite a few I've seen so far. After I race at a track, it's track decal will be added to the t top. Going to knock out the two left here in Michigan first then next stop will likely be Virginia Speedway. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170903/36a5fa8f1904202a828df89d8475a897.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170903/f76f7866abaf29c42218cdba49c17778.jpg

Roof is leaking or the windshield is. Driver seat is now getting soaked in heavy rain whereas it never before.
It's getting too cold to work on shit now here in Michigan.

I'm at roughly 11k miles on the LE2 heads and cam. I can't express my satisfaction enough with it. Cruising down twisty back roads is an absolute dream with the suspension setup.

The car is starting to have a hard start. It needs gas pedal action to start if you try and restart after a couple minutes. After 15 or so it's fine most of the time. Recently started doing this so I'll check codes and see what I get. It's just an inconvenience, not really a problem. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171029/1128877656581b982922e6732ae79705.jpg

Well... Changes are coming to the car. Nothing severe, mainly some suspension mods and new wheels.

I'm likely converting the car to front breather and running an over the radiator intake. I'm waiting for it to warm up here so I can start making a template of a splitter.

I have an event I'm pretty sure I'm going to in Canada at the end of April. If the cards play out, I'll be going to Pittsburgh international in May or August. It just all depends on school

It's going to be a fun year.. Hopefully. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180203/7e271a674a05da5d8c95a7de8ee225cd.jpg

It's been a rough start to the year. Been extremely busy with family issues and other things.

But,

I started building the air dam finally. It should be done tomorrow when the material all comes in from McMaster.

Other than that, nothings really happened. It's been January in April here in Michigan, but it's finally warming up.

I also started refinishing my other set of taillights. So far they have came out very nice. I plan on doing the c/k series pickup headlights in a couple weeks.

I scooped the UMI sway bars for under 300 on eBay when there was a 20% off everything sale. The difference these made were night and day. The new wheels and tires will surely love them.

Oh yeah I bought new wheels. It's a little bit of a surprise. Florida in June, I'm excited for the year. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180419/e733d31ba5a16496e9432b1d6bdc18ca.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180419/bf16ec65cebeb10864adcdf7c289b9de.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180419/e8674c910b69630941152397a8843e0a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180419/526e571aedc8981d15539948a3d97827.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180419/23e9d614bab27847a7b32549320bbac8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180419/176522c6d21acf161155716abcb7fc65.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180419/d65a05cfec6c78ee63cac36c7272ac19.jpg

Dan all you need now is retractable headlight's [emoji16]. Wonder how much down force there is on that chin spoiler? Good deal. Going to look good.

It's not how fast you mow. It's how you mow fast. It's angled so it doesn't create any really.

I painted the dam.. I sprayed it first with adhesion promoter, then spray krylon Maxx on it. I'm throwing it on tomorrow.

I rounded the bottom of the air dam off more so it looks more even than the current pictures.
I also opened the hole up more and cleaned it up. Then I painted the bumper.

Rolling the rear fenders and fitting the wheels tomorrow, then a photoshoot to reveal it all.

Been busy I'll hopefully post more recent pictures tomorrow. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180501/f0523a8fd0b6e56f4b9f6fac1da34187.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180501/0ff9e133f1dc72b9ee9323f6315df1ee.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180501/65eb6a5a854fe43292d95d721784d599.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180501/8f8df2c4e6c044e588d06a4f2e3f6d3e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180501/4682d802d1240a738c7a9c081ab0685c.jpg

Are you leaving it as multiple pieces or is this just a template that you're going to make in one big sheet once you get it where you want it?

I'm prob converting hubs before Florida. We'll see. I wants to get new seats in the car. I've dropped 30 lbs now so I'm itching to get some corbeau Forzas.
Lots of work to get done, not much time.

Car really needs a damn bath. Went on a little road trip today and ended it by starting my new headlight install. Got a cool mpg average of 22.
The lights are the c/k series pickup lights I snagged off eBay. I couldn't get my old setup to work again properly after putting a new headlight panel in, so I said heck it and bought them for around 80. I'll be putting a HID on the projector. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180509/82cea9df2ac6d38703a7aafff303cb18.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180509/44c50463e8919a73ef52aae85dbd329a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180509/ca6dda991f866aa46311408ad4f0d665.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180509/def0cf05b647ce5a9f476520d9ff0275.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180509/e7ddcff3677a7b019ddf18d0f875b169.jpg

Not really, but I ended up buying a new car. Issa little off topic, but Issa 2018 jetta.

I've decided it's not smart to go 20 hours away from home, so I'm going to stay more local. I may be going to Pittsburgh international race complex in wampum, as it's only 4 hours.

However I will be going to Phili this summer because there's a cheesesteak place there called Dalessandros, which is my last name.
So road trip I guess.

So, whoever is in Pennsylvania and reads this, you've been warned.
