Hello, quick question.

I just thought of the idea of doing a pcm swap to see if the car would run more efficient. I thought about swapping out my old PCM for a 97 PCM from a 6 speed Trans Am. I'm trying to get passed 115 mph since that's my top out speed(Someone told me on the forum that you can swp out the pcm for another to cure this problem. But I don't know how accurate that is.) and get ride of the codes in the process. Just wanna know thoughts and opinions. '96 Trans Am A4 2:73 gears

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhh
I need to sig that hey sexy

OP I'm not sure. It could be a tune issue. I've never heard of a car topping out at 115 due to the PCM. I've done over that in my car which is don't recommend :P
It could be a tune issue too.

My 1995 Formula would hit a hard limiter right around there. But, it was also the only that I know of that didn't get Z rated tires.

For future reference, cars that came on H rated tires got a 115 MPH speedo and corresponding speed limiter.

And, the speed limiter can be changed in the tune. Does not require a PCM replacement.

While it is believed that the cars that left the factory with the Z-rated tires “have no speed limiter”, in fact they do. 255 is entered in the program field. That number was selected because it is the largest discreet (1 MPH increment) binary number that will fit in an 8-bit field. So... yes, for all practical purposes, there is no speed limiter.

Surprising it took four years for the correct answer to show up.

It's gotten a little slow around these parts sadly.

It's gotten a little slow around these parts sadly. It's a sign of the times unfortunately... Facebook and everyone and their mom starting a page for lt1 this and ltx that... no one has time for the forums and actual RIGHT answers from people who actually KNOW.
